Top 3 console games ever

Wow its been so long since I have heard someone mention Body Harvest!

My top 3:

1. Zelda OOT / FF VII
2. Metal Gear Solid
3. Super Metroid

Yes I cheated, but its just too hard to name only 3!

Just out of interest is it not odd that most people are naming games from over 7 years ago, some of them 10+, even snes games? I think games these days are just not as fun as how they used to be.
 
Here's my personal faves

1) Phantasy Star Online V1&2 (Dreamcast) This game cost me thousands of pounds on my phone line because I lived on this game. Dam them dailup days where you at to pay for every min you were online. :mad: I went almost a week without sleep because of this game and I mad my self ill because of it. That's how amazing this game was.

2) Mario 64 is my second fave but I sure as hell spent enough time playing it. I remeber going after every star which imcreased the life span of the game greatly.

3) Shenmue (Dreamcast) I was blown away by Shenmue it was a master piece. Just observing NPCs going on about there daily business was cool. :D

Probably the 3 games (apart from Tekken 2 and Quake 2) that had the biggest influence on me growing up.
 
1) Zelda OOT - the most breathtaking game of its time, gameplay, story, even the grahpics in the city were just amazing.

2) MGS - Again, gameplay, story and graphics just totally amazing.... characters as well.... raven... ocelot... psycho mantis just brilliantly thought up characters.

3) Goldeneye - Best FPS on a console ever, mainly because of how great it was at the time, many many many hours lost to this brilliant game.
 
I'm a very casual gamer these days and I think I would choose:

1) Final Fantasy VII
2) Metal Gear Solid
3) Gran Turismo

I was really torn between putting Goldeneye and one of the ISS games in there as well because my friends and I have spent many a sleepover watching the sunrise whilst playing these.

I don't know how old you are but for me (as a 25 year old) I find that I just can't really get in to games as much as I could when I was of high school age - i.e when I played Final Fantasy 7 first time around (xmas day) I remember playing it pretty much constantly all day where as now I just don't have the attention span for it - oh and occasionally other things to do!.

Also, it might have something to do with the hype and anticipation surrounding a game at the time of launch back then. Most of my friends and I would only really get a few new games a year (birthday, xmas and then maybe 1 or 2 in the middle) so the whole experience was a real buzz. I remember using all of my pocket money and trading lots of games in to get Gran Turismo after school one day and I had been excited about it all week.....maybe that's why I was determined to put so many hours in to it?

What with the prevalence of services like steam etc combined with having more money then when you were at school it makes it much easier to buy games on a whim and toss them to one side if they don't blow you away immediately
 
The games thats tole my child hood..

1) FF IIV
2) Front Mission 3
3) Star Ocean: The second story
+ MGS1 ;)

I'll probably change my mind in 10 minutes. :D

1- Goldeneye (N64)

2- Gran Turismo 3: A spec (PS2)

3- Grand Theft Auto 3 (PS2)

I found it hard not to include Metal Gear Solid but I never owned a Playstation myself so my first Metal Gear experience was MGS2 on the PS2 by which time the foundations had already been laid out by the first game that I missed out on
 
1. Banjo Kazooie - Absolutely loved this game, i still get the buzz for it when playing the trial on xbox arcade.

2. Diddy Kong Racing - First game i played on the N64 and i was hooked, bloody brilliant! :D

3. Meta Gear Solid 2 - Changed the way i played and thought about games forever, superb!

Obviously there is some very close contenders like KOTOR, GTA and the Zelda games but the ones above are true all time butterfly in my stomach games!
 
Why are people mentioning PC games when the title asks for favourite consoles games? :p

Anyway, my three are....

1) Ninja Gaiden (Xbox) - IMO the most perfect action game ever released, simply amazing.

2) God of War (PS2) - Comes a very close second to NG

3) Eternal Darkness (GC) - Blew me away the first time I played it, went through it 3 times in one weekend just to see the true ending.

Honourable mentions to MGS, Resident Evil 4 and KOTOR.
