Top 3 console games ever

1. Final Fantasy 7 - absolute classic, the amount of coverage this game still gets is enough proof really

2. Super Mario Kart (Snes version) - best track listing (apart from the DS version) - has the best version of battle. If only you could play it online...

3. Tomb Raider - in terms of personal impact, this has to be up there as an all time classic. Our entire house missed a week of university so we could play this non-stop till the end. By the end, we had about a dozen people gathered round watching us play it. Still ranks up there as one of the most enjoyable games I've ever played.

Honourable mentions to Resi Evil, WipeOut 2097, MGS 1, Secret of Mana, Golden Sun and Suikoden. Lifetime achievement award to Alex Kidd in Miracle World on the Master System :)

Can't believe I forgot Tomb Raider, the first two were epic games

Very good shout, now I have the tune from the paper/scissors/rock part stuck in my head! If only this game had a save feature it would have saved me burning an image of it onto my mega old CRT tv I had as a kid. Was going on holiday for a week but was so far in to the game I just paused it (using the pause button on the actual console!) and left it in situ for the whole time. My technical know how obviously wasn't that great because I thought that I had to leave the telly on as well!

Resident Evil 2
Donkey Kong Country 2
Zelda OOT

Pretty much the obvious choices. Those games I are the ones I have my best memories with.

Goldeneye (N64)

Just a superb game, still play it to this day. Also has one of the best music soundtracks on a game in my opinion, albeit obviously James Bond related.

GTA 3 (PS2)

I remember playing it and just being blown away by what was capable. The idea that you could drive around a massive 3D city was just amazing - and opened up GTA to be what we know it as today.

GTA: Vice City

Don't have to say too much on this - amazing soundtrack and perfect capture of the 80's.

That is a massive shout! That console was my first ever games console, I had the Master System II with that built on. Oh the memories of playing that all day christmas day.

I also remember knowing my mum had got me Sonic II for christmas, so when she was at work I went into her wardrobe and got the game out and had a quick 30 minute game, :o oh how I longed for xmas day that year. :D

May sound wierd, But i used to love the smell of the new Sega Master System cases, Thinking now gives me uber nostalgia belly warmth. mmm, Plastic.

But yes, Miracle world was awesome, although difficult I found, Its the one where you played rock paper scissors, Ordered Pizza and did exams yes? lol

1. Metal Gear Solid
2. Final Fantasy VIII
3. Gran Turismo

These games got some serious hammer when I was growing up.

Super Mario Kart (SNES) None fo the remake crap or the horrendous abortion that was diddykong racing
Zelda LTTP (SNES) Y'know it makes sense ;) also how the hell does my save battery still work lol
FF7 - Still one of the most talked about games, released when you say? ;)

No.1) Final Fantasy 7.
Best gaming time of my life, i don't think i'll ever re-live that feeling i had when playing this for the first time round not knowing where the story is going. makes me sad thinking about that actually lol.

No.2) Suikoden 1/2
i loved the gameplay, graphics, and music. and the fact there was 108 characters to collect, most of which you could use in battle. they also contributed into building up an awesome castle. like if you got a certain character he built a lift etc in it. Viktor & Flik were also awesome characters!

No.3) Resident Evil 2.
After playing the demo to death, my dad finally took me out to buy it from town. i was so hyped up about playing this game, and completed it multiple times to get everything. its definately one of the better resident evil games. (along with 3 which was also excellent)

unfortunately for me gaming isnt like what it used to be, games dont hold my attention anymore (now im 22 going on 23) i seem to play and lose interest or have something else to do. which is a shame, i miss the good old days of sitting infront of a game on a cold winters day and staying there all day :D

1) Zelda: The Ocarina of Time

2) Goldeneye 64

3) Sonic Adventure

Honourable mentions go to: Super Mario 64, Sonic & Knuckles and Pokemon Blue, Yellow and Gold (if handhelds count).

Sweet mother of Joseph... I had Alex Kidd in Miricle World (if I remember correctly :D) on my Master System when you turned it on with no game in it. I used to have nightmares about the frog at the bottom of that level. :(

Just out of interest is it not odd that most people are naming games from over 7 years ago, some of them 10+, even snes games? I think games these days are just not as fun as how they used to be.

The thread IS heavily infused with nostalgia after all. Also, it's worth considering that many of these games we've played early in our gaming lives, so the impression is bound to hit us even harder. When you've been playing video games for over a decade, it's hard to be impressed now.

1) Zelda: The Ocarina of Time
2) Goldeneye (This game pretty much made me the gamer i am today ^^)
3) FF7

I dont think i ever gave the N64 enough credit now i think about it. I was pretty much a PS fanboy at the time but right now its just N64 games whizzing around my head. In recent years (as some others have said) not many games have really hit me hard and made me play for days and days on end (RE 4 and MP are about the only ones).

Oh i want to relive the N64/PS1 era again :(

I played OoT last month, and it's still the best game I've played.

Not sure what I'd make of it if I was to play it for the first time now though, I bet it would still be very good.

These are my choices.

Gran Turismo 3: Absolutely groundbreaking when it came out, I still play it occasionally on the PS2 and I have to say the graphics still impress me! :)

Resident Evil 2: Scared the crap out of me when I had it on the PS1, Very atmospheric, great soundtrack and good combat. :)

GTA 3: Another game that was a revolution. The first steps towards the behemoth that is GTA 4. I played this game to death, I can't remember how many countless hours of misspent youth and how many school revision sessions were "wasted" on playing this brilliant game. :)

Other special mentions have to go to Metal Gear Solid, GTA: Vice City and although not strictly a console game I'd have to put Command and Conquer here too. :)
