Top 3 Games based on Graphics on the PC?

I don't quite understand why Company of Heroes is one of the best graphically enhanced games on the PC. Maybe someone would care to enlighten me?

I just played the demo and the graphics are mediocre at best when set on high detail with AA/AF. For an RTS, I can see why it's got a high accolade due to it's stellar gameplay, but to be honest I just don't see how it's pushing any graphical boundaries.

Call of Duty

Company of Heroes

That's why. The game boasts visuals FAR nicer than that of FPS' from a few years ago and has some fantastic art work. Not a single texture or model looks out of place in the environment, buildings crumble realistically, people from from buildings when they explode, rubble flies everywhere, fantastic smoke effects - it actually is a awesome game to behold.

It was a somewhat suprising decision for myself to pick it actually, but it really is very impressive. The explosions from artillery in particular are exceptional and I think to fully appreciate the graphics you need to view the action from some non-default angles (such as in the cutscenes).

If you genuinely think the graphics are mediocre on high (ultra?) then I'd love to know a list of games you consider superior (say 50 games). I can understand people not having it in their top3 or even top10 depending on their tastes and what they've played, but I'd certainly rate it above average never mind mediocre.

You said it yourself, you were somewhat surprised to pick it. I could probably name you 50 games, sure, but to be honest, I don't think i've played 50 games on the PC. :D

The graphics are simply mediocre in comparision to games like FEAR, HL2, etc.

Everquest 2 is still a stunning game And even high end sli rigs have trouble runing this. Very CPU bound but is awsome runing full boot

Far Cry is still the best imo.

Half Life 2 still looks very nice aswell.

And then i can't choose between F.E.A.R and Oblivion.

Btw I'm talking about vanilla Oblivion here, if it's including mods then that game is by far the bet looking game on the PC at the current moment in time no doubt.

Its an RTS, for a game of its genre the graphics are stunning. being able to take the camera right into the action and out again smoothly, panning around and having so much happening at once. Its graphics are great man. Judge it for what it is, dont compare it to source or fear.

The only reason it suprised me was because it is an RTS, a genre not normally noted for breathtaking visuals.

FEAR and HL2 both have good graphics, and I can understand they may be more to some people's tastes, but I certainly wouldn't rate CoH as 'mediocre' next to it. Maybe having played so few PC games has limited your experience of the market as a whole meaning that you don't have much perspective of what an average PC game looks like.

Take a look at stuff like this :http://media2.playstadium.dk/img/marty/companyofheroes/1.jpg

Now I'm sure we could all find flaws in that image but the same can be said for pretty much any game. And for every FEAR or HL2 I could probably come up with two title which look worse than CoH. I haven't played the demo, maybe that doesn't flatter the game (perhaps no ULTRA textures? maybe lacks some of the features of the full game like artillery bombardment?)

As an RTS it is stunning, sure, but as this thread is based on the whole market of PC games, the whole point of this thread is to compare it to other games.

On the contrary, they have amazing graphics.

We will have to agree to disagree hombre. This isn't a question of who is right and who is wrong. :)

I don't see how you can state I have limited experience of the market, when you are basing that on a figure below 50 games. I've played well above 20, including all the recent FPS and graphical stunners i.e. FEAR, Quake 4, HL2, COD2, BF2142, i could go on.

That screenshot looks great, but the game is nowhere like that throughout. Again, in my view I simply find the models, shaders lacking and that's because the game sometimes requires a mass of units on screen at any one time. That's why the graphics aren't on par with an FPS like HL2 in my view.

It's simply not capable within the RTS field at this time. If you wish to base your view on it's graphics within the RTS category, that's up to you.

Company of Heroes - It is the most graphically impressive game I played last year regardless of genre. Everyone whom I showed it to went "wow!".
Half Life 2 - Still has a great detailed feel to it.
F.E.A.R - Again has great feel to it.

no one has said Flatout 2. I tihnk it looks really nice. It also doesnt require a monster of a machine to play

ArmA looks quite nice aswell, shame its got crap gameplay and sound!
