Top 3 Games based on Graphics on the PC?

We will have to agree to disagree hombre. This isn't a question of who is right and who is wrong. :)

Fair enough - as previously stated I can understand if people don't rate CoH as having amazing graphics, it's more the use of the word 'mediocre' that I take issue with. Maybe we just have different ideas of what the word means :)
That screenshot looks great, but the game is nowhere like that throughout.
Well... FEAR or HL2 doesn't look impressive all the time either. For example I'd say that some of the office environments (FEAR) and citadel environments (HL2) aren't anything special graphically - very bland.
Again, in my view I simply find the models, shaders lacking and that's because the game sometimes requires a mass of units on screen at any one time. That's why the graphics aren't on par with an FPS like HL2 in my view.
In my view part of being graphically impressive includes having a lot going on at once. I mean I'm sure if we limited a game to solely one enemy at a time we could really bump up the detail, but that would be somewhat counterproductive.

It's simply not capable within the RTS field at this time. If you wish to base your view on it's graphics within the RTS category, that's up to you.

Not at all - I listed it alongside a FPS and an RPG in my list of 3. The fact that I stated my suprise at it's inclusion just goes to illustrate that it has really stepped out from it's RTS pigeon hole and has acheived acclaim in it's own right.

no one has said Flatout 2. I tihnk it looks really nice. It also doesnt require a monster of a machine to play

I was actually thinking of Flatout 2 as it is very pretty coupled with excellent performance. It's a big improvement on Flatout. However I just couldn't justify putting it ahead of the titles I chose.

BF2142 - Cranked up full it really does look amazing, especially when you consider viewing distances & sniper zooms etc. I was pleasently suprised by this game, graphics wise as well as gameplay.

Oblivion - with all the texture mods etc, it looks awesome. Even without the mods, coming out the sewer into the countryside for the first time was 'one of those gaming moments'.

Dark Messiah - The graphics are great & run very well, but sometimes it's not just about the still shots. Kicking someone into a spiked wall, or smacking an arrow into someone to knock them over a precipice in this game gives you a feeling of bulk, of mass - and the motion & static graphics all add to this. I know what I mean anyway ;)

No particular order

Oblivion (obivously)
Far Cry
X3 Reunion. Just stunning, I've not got the best rig around but even when playing this on my 24" widescreen monitor it looks amazing, I can just fly around taking in the scenery especially the Boron systems in the top left corner of the map. The graphics (and the music) make it so atmospheric :)

I'd like to add an honourable mention to WoW. While I know people will disagree with me I think the graphics set the world off perfectly Espceially places like Taranis and duskwood.

I agree. Blizzard are masters of art design.

Yes, the graphics to set to the world (although I'd more say its the textures rather than graphics) however graphically compared to games such as CoH they aren't very good at all.

Guild wars on the other hand has much better graphics for an MMO.

Keep 'em coming guys! I tallied up the votes (albeit roughly as some people voted more than three times and some only voted for one game) and Oblivion is out in the lead with 15 votes. Followed closely by Company of Heroes with 9 votes and Half Life 2 with 8. :)

HL2 (+HDR)

FEAR

But both are soon to be surpassed of course by CrySis...

That pic makes me weep with joy everytime I see it...

Is it just me that isn't in to all this motion blur we're getting in games now?

I know it's more realistic but it begins to do my head in after a while.

My personal top three graphical games would be:

Far Cry
Call of Duty 2
Doom III

As for Crysis, i've got a bad feeling that when it comes out it's going to be "too overdeveloped" if you get what I mean! :)

i know what you mean. i was playing gears of war on the 360 the other day and it started to make it seem a little cartoony.

however, when i FIRST played it - the first few minutes - it was the coolest thing about it.

i'm on the fence about this one tbh

From what ive played

CoH
HL2
Oblivion

Its starting to look dated to me. I see some screenshots now and the textures look blocky and too filled, if you see what i mean. But it suits the game even though its not that great.
