Top Gear Is Back!!

Lol, well at least I'm not alone in taking it at face value and finding it to be the best program on television at the moment. :)

I guess you're the type of person who moans about how blatantly fake wrestling is?

Top Gear is an entertainment show. Everything* on there is staged, how else would they make the show? Do it all live and unscripted and hope some funny events occur? But then you would probably moan that the show is boring and nothing exciting ever happens.

*I think so anyway. I'm not sure if everything is scripted as a few jokes that get said in the studio seem to provoke genuine and unexpected laughter from the audience and the guys themselves. However I would say that at least 80-90% of the content of the challenges are scripted.

The gti vs Lambo was VERY skyline vs mclaren F1 drag. :)

It wasn't really a race!... It was so us normal people who don't or can't really grasp the concept of '0-60 in 3.2 sec' or traveling at '200+ mph' can get a perspective with an everyday car.. its like putting a 10p piece next to a CPU die to show a size comparison!

ntl I want that Lambo!!

But that's what I am moaning about. It is not the fact that the show has writers that bothers me. It's the fact that it's so blatently staged (i.e. set up) and therefore obvious, that it no longer makes me laugh.

TG is becoming "right, these are our standard jokes, how can we get them into this weeks show"

*shrugs* I just prefer to see a show where I don't know what's going to happen 10 minutes before it appears on the screen.

To be honest I thought it was boring and the jokes are being reused far too much.
The whole tractor thing was lame and the Lambo was the only car review on it. Its fast becomming "money for jam."

Im sure I'll still watch the next episode though in the hope they do something original.

She'd say the same thing about a Ferrari or whatever, greenie small car person basically

True. But she did like the Bentley Continental - not a car that could be called enviromentally friendly.
I think her comment regarding the Gay-ardo (that's nearly how it's pronounced BTW ;) ) was directed to the image of masculinity that the car projects for the driver. Either that or she was just winding up Jezza. :p

Why do people read too much into what is a very amusing TV show. You can find fault with it, but if you take it for what it is it is easilly the best thing on tele IMO!

It is a good show and it's pretty obvious that it is no longer a car show but wasn't that bothered about the episode last night. The rest have been brilliant.

You KNOW what the show is like so why continue to watch it?

It's blatantly staged but it's still hilariously funny. All the Kristen stuff was all fake but it was still amusing.

I like Top Gear. I get to turn my brain off and watch an hour of hilarious childish pranks, messing around and tyre smoke.

Meh, I always hope that they're going to do something different, but they don't.

I doubt I will watch next weeks episode, tbh.

Just watched last nights program, what a load of drivel

If they really don't improve things soon I'm going to pack up watching it

I have to admit it's wearing a bit thin now.

The train crash was quite impressive although I don't imagine it will stop some lemmings trying to beat them over a crossing. I only watched that part lastnight.

yes , that was useful just to see how horrific these things could be

but the rest

star in car bit - excuse to plug latest book/film/play etc and who cares how quick a b list celeb can drive

stupid challenges - one or two were fun buf ffs it's getting tiresome now

road tests, hardly ever any and then only supercars being trashed round an airfield - yes, yes very good for the first few hundred times

stig - perfectly good idea using a standard driver for track tests but what is this now ? TV for bloody 6 year olds

Most of the show was OK but the bit when they were sat round doing the news and just bantering between themselves in front of the camera was some of the funniest stuff I've seen in ages, some great lines there. Wish there was more of this.

They tested ONE car, not their usual which is best of the three etc...
To be honest it is more of a high budget comedy show based around cars now...
well thats how i saw last nights episode. It is too predictable i mean one of those cars in the car park had to be hit by the trailer so when they did it i didnt actually laugh. Thing is with these new episodes is they are not a motoring show as much as they used to be which is a shame as a great show is being slowley lost to please the masses.

I think the episodes I enjoy most are the road trips, like they each drive a car somewhere and do their little competitions (The American episode being the king of them all), or the races with jeremy in the SLR, Veyron etc and james and may making their own way with trains/planes etc.

OK - this bugs me hideously - I found the train impact quite interesting from a safety point of view and as to see what happened and it genuinely could have been a good article.

But Clarkson comes in just acting like a total ******* and screwing around and irritated me beyond belief.......GARRR.

A bit off topic but, i was watching the very first new top gear season 1 episode 1 and there was no May but some fat bloke. What happened to him?, he didn't strike me as a good presenter anyway.

Also how come no one knows the identity of the Stig, surly the paparazzi would have snapped a shot of him taking his helmet off or something by now.

I'm enjoying the new season a lot so far but it would be nice to see a few more cars reviewed as well as the banter. Its getting a little bit too much like that science thing Hamster presents on Sky one. Saying that though i tune in every week and never miss and episode.
