What was that "motoring" programme called again? Starring ugly xenophobic fat man and his public schoolboy chums?
Top Gear in case you have forgotten. :( The last episode was crap. I miss those road trips they used to do.

HI there

Thats possible, but seems odd how the figure they got corresponds pretty much to what the cars get in the US at the wheels.

Also if it was just down on power then its no doubt due to the fact the car was cooking itself due to the fact it would have been revving like mad and doing approx 150mph on the rolling road and had absolutely ZERO air flow and the bonnet was down. That say to me the dyno operators are clueless anyway letting the engine bake like that.

Yes agreed dynos are generally in accurate even when measuring at the wheels too as tyre pressure, tyre type, rear-diff gears can also effect at the wheels results. Dyno's are just good for comparing different mods as long as you use the same dyno. :)

In fairness, it was a cold windy day and they faced it into the wind... out doors is much cooler than inside as well...

But also, mods on the same dyno should be run on the same day as well to get an accurate difference... things like atmospheric pressure, temperature, humidity... all affect the outcome, as well as how much wear has been put on the dyno between runs...

I would imagine that "portable" dyno get dragged around to all sorts of events and possibly isnt maintained as well as a big tuning centre would maintain its own..

But then again, I could be wrong

:D

Hi there

Well generally the American cars always tend to make more power then manufacturers tend to claim which makes this quite odd that the dyno gave such a low result.
Obviously the other explanation could be that this is the Shelby press car which has been ragged round many test tracks and generally thrashed so something could always be broke on the car. The other possibility is that there is a re-call on the GT500 due to the air filter element de-laminating which starves the car of airflow and as such the MAF adjust fuel which does tend to result in 40-60HP less. This has been a problem in the US and once the re-call has been done with a none faulty filter in they tend to read around 505-515BHP.

Like you say, dynos are in-accurate.......

Watched the final episode last night (Was in TiVo)

Absolute class, the wife and I where roaring with proper laughter. Those limos where classic, especially when jezzas split in half! Fair play to the celebs who took part, good to see some people still have a sense of humour! Just glad I wasn't trying to cross London that day! :D

Roll on the next series, Top Gear > 5th Gear any day of the week!

From a combination of a column from Jeremy Clarkson a couple of months ago and one from Richard Hammond today, I think that the Top Gear presenters and producer are going to be performing on the Top Gear of the Pops one-off special on Comic Relief. That will be...different. If I recall correctly, they planned to do a cover of Radar Love by Golden Earring. I'm not sure if I want to hear them trying it.

I'm going to watch Top Gear of the Pops anyway, although I'm not sure why anyone would volunteer to be on it:
Suffice to say, we will be taking more of a Top Gear approach to pop music than is traditional. In other words, if we think something is rubbish, we'll say as much.

So which do you think will happen!?!...

Clarkson's: There won't be any more Top Gear (according to his Column).

The BBC's: Top Gear will be back in the Summer... with the 3 normal presenters!.

I hope its the Beebs!...

Clarkson's probly got a bit scared due to what happened to hammy!... its probly made him think "Hmmm we're not indestructible!... We might need to rethink this!".

Don't let Top Gear die!!!.. :(

He didn't explicitly say that there 'won't be any more top gear' in his column, more along the lines of "At the end of last Sundays Top Gear the continuity announcer said top gear would be back in the summer, I would like to say right here and now that it won't be"

Which, while there have been episodes during the summer I can't recall a new series starting in the summer, has always been spring/autumn.

Maybe they start with repeats or "Best of" episodes first, didn't they do a whole lot of "Best of" last year?

A spokesman [for the BBC] said: "Top Gear is coming back. There will be a special in the summer and a new series in the autumn."

Telegraph article on it, updated a few hours ago

Maybe Jeremy Clarkson was talking about the next series of Top Gear. A special is a one-off, not a series "coming back" after a break.

Maybe Jeremy Clarkson has decided to kill off TG for some reason...though why would he?

All he is saying is that the BBC is falsely projecting the series to be returning in the summer when in fact it is just one special episode.

Methinks he's pulled a few media strings to kick up all this fuss so he has some leverage to get a pay rise ;)
