Yeah they couldn't have been breaking the law. Many people watch Top Gear just to point out mistakes and the write in and complain, as with the huge number of fans Top Gear has, there's quite a number of people who detest the show (enviromentalists etc) - so if it was against the law it would have been brought it up the first time they did it a number of years ago.
I remember someone writing in to tell them that Clarkson had overtaken on double-white lines.
Try explaining that while being fisted by the long arm of the law.
Yes, and it wasn't even full on double white line, only the last part of the overtake was on the double white lines.
@Khaaan!, I would not try it, I doubt you can even convince a policeman that you can do anything other than make telephone calls with a mobile
Didn't Jimmy Carr not get away with a similar thing? Using his phone as a Dictaphone to record a joke or something equally unlikely.

He's hilarious! Went to a gig of his at the Manchester Apollo with my two flatmates when we were sharing a flat at Uni. Brilliant night out that was.
Farnborough Business Park is just up the road from me, it's absolutely tiny so god knows how they made a race track out of it !
