Top Gear Season 14

No matter how 'real' it was, it sure as hell looked fun. Even if he didn't go upside down, it's like a mix between Bobsledding, Racing and The Italian Job.

I don't dispute it was a cool location. Credit to them for finding it.

But when it comes to portraying stupid stunts with CGI, they can't have a very high opinion of the viewer when they do that.

Didn't look CGI to me. Obviously it wasn't Clarkson driving it, but I see no reason why it couldn't have been done with a stunt driver. Probably did some substatial damage to the Twingo, but they clearly used several anyway.

I do echo some of the above comments that it has gotten a little stale in recent seasons, its just the same old stuff over and over. I actually prefer the old seasons!

Before people start going mental and asking me why I watch it, I watch it because it is still good TV, better than most the dross out there but just not as good as before!

People get too defensive over a TV show.

I agree.

Fifth gear did a "loop the loop" in a similar car - they had to hit it at 36mph exactly which is fast enough to get around, but not too fast to knock the driver out owing to g-forces. I don't see why it wasn't real, the speeds were roughly the same, and the sparks from the underside of the car seemed genuine enough - I don't think TG has gone to the effort of CGI when they've never had to do it before. I don't see why it wasn't possible to do it - I've seen far crazier stunts - futhermore it most probably wasn't him driving it anyway. They've done more stupid things on top gear than that anyway!

Sky +'d this and only just got round to watching it last night

Excellent episode, top gear back to doing what they do best - roadtests. The Q7/X5/RR test was brilliant. Informative and entertaining.

Twingo test was also an excellent mix between informative and entertainment. They did a usefull review telling us how good the car is, whilst still obviously having great fun. Also dont see the point in destroying so many twingos.

Doesnt bother me, as already said they will have been provided free, and it works for both sides - cheap advertising for renault and cars to destroy and make fun with for top gear.

Just didnt find the crashing bit funny. Race to the ferry at the end was good. Laughed when it didnt make it and got dropped in the water though lol.

I kind of got the idea that there was something not right about it simply due to the fact they made so little of it. For all the build up the roll itself was over so quickly and they only showed it the once. On the approach whilst Clarkson was waffling all I could think was "There's floodlights all down that wall. I doubt he's going to drive over them" then I never really got to see how they dealt with it. I remember it looked awkward as the car ran out of momentum and kind of fell the last bit but I didn't see whether the lights were even still there.

Looking at the numberplates i counted one twingo that got wrecked, this was the same car used in the tunnel and on the docks gags + off into the water.

never noticed the numberplates change.

Wouldnt be surprised if it was only one. and the claim that there were loads was just the local rags immagination running away with them as an excuse to have a go at top gear.

They made that obvious right from the start of the article when they called the top gear crew "clarkson and his cronies" or whatever.

I meant worldwide, you probably knew I meant that though

then theres the sales to airlines.

WHy is it every plane ive ever flow on in the last couple of years has an episode of top gear on the in flight entertainment lol !

During the roll there was not a single floodlight along the side of the tunnel. Either they got lucky and happened to find a stretch with no lights or more likely it was CGI. Still it was good fun to watch.

LOL. Best CGI in the world if it was, but lets be realistic this is Top Gear, not a Hollywood blockbuster.

CGI lmao. some of you guys must have been watching a different program to me. To make that scene look like it wasnt CGI would have taken a dreamworks budget for gods sake.

It was clearly real, nothing was awkward in the filming apart from the car trying to do a loop in a concrete tunnel. the way the car reacted before, during and after the event was real.

Things like Avatar, Monsters Inc etc are fantastic CGI. A 10 second clip of a car in a poorly lit tunnel where flaws and imperfect models are not going to stand out like a sore thumb is hardly pushing the boundaries of animation. Who knows if its real or not and at the end of the day does it really matter? It was entertaining TV and im fairly sure that was what the producers wanted.
