Top Gear: Series 19

Remember there's also the camera car with them so the speed of whatever JC is driving doesn't actually matter :D

He should always use the Range Rover for these challenges - its always far enough ahead to be overtaken multiple times :p

Also when hes late into Milan its amusing to see Richard and May running/cycling in afternoon sunlight whilst Clarkson is in 'hot pursuit' during dusk :D

Dang, I know damp and wet are different but beating the NSX-R is still pretty impressive :)

In fairness to the NSX, the track was pretty soaked from what I remember wheras for the GT86 the track was practically dry, certainly dry enough for the tyres to be screaming for dear mercy.

Top Gear lap times are not the best comparison as I think there has been about 3-4 different Stigs, plus track conditions can vary a lot and they are not tested on same day, same conditions, same driver etc.

But gotta think about what the GT86 is, which is a RWD extremely well sorted chassis in a very lightweight car, approx 1200kg I think, someone can correct me, so it should fair pretty well against an M3 which weighs in at 1600kg nearly.

I think the performance of the GT86 is great considering it's not a small car, it's only a 2L engine, without turbo or supercharger and the tyres are thin.
There's quite a lot that could be done if you want to improve its power and grip and with the price and the targeted market, you can bet your man sausage that there's going to be a heap of mods available by the end of the year.

Enjoyed the episode greatly, impressive output from the Shelby!! But what a silly size fuel tank - makes an e60 M5 seem designed for range!! :D

I nearly fell off my chair when my fiancé (who does not drive) understood over & under steer!!! :D

The toll roads don't seem to be very heavily policed and I don't think I've seen a speed camera on them either. However the non toll dual carriageways it's not worth going faster than the speed limit as there appears to be millions of the cameras. And they were grey so blended in until on top of them.

They maybe grey (and small height wise) but they also have yellow/black markings and there are warning signposts before the cameras so it's quite easy not to get caught. There are not millions of cameras either.

If you look to Japan's aftermarket, there already is. Mostly all of the big tuning companies and bodyshops have had demo models for almost a year before the GT86/BRZ was officially released so that there were mods etc on sale for that time.

Plus the cameras can't get you if you have a uk numberplate :D

It'll happen one day, but for now speeding fines dished out by cameras don't cross borders.

The thing about the GT86, it's not JUST about getting the back out, it's the fact it actually handles really well, and you don't HAVE to get the back end out, however, it's so balanced and progressive that it's easy to predict and control meaning you feel more confident at attacking a corner.

However, just like any car (whether it be FWD/RWD) if you go too fast for a corner, you're going too fast - physics is physics.

Pathetic how? They needed to show the clear difference between under and over steer. Yes us lot know what it is, but a lot of people who watch top gear these days it would seem don't. How else would you have them demonstrate it?

Top Gear has 350 million viewers world wide, so its clear that the current format has brought the program much more mainstream into a the realms of an entertainment program rather than a factual one.

The format works, and they aren't going to get rid of the silly stuff and go back to how it was, the comments at the start of the season say they know what gets said on Finalgear and other websites like this, but its simply financially more successful with its current format.

As a result the audience now includes plenty who won't understand the difference between FWD or RWD and understeer / oversteer.

As already commented, using the E63 AMG was taking things to the extreme in the other direction as well, so its not like its an anti vauxhall thing.

Indeed!

I think 250hp~ with fatter tyres would make the already fun and capable car nearly perfect. However, not driven the car so just speculating.

£5k 1/5 of what you will be paying for the car. Can't help but think £30k (after installing the charger) is proper M3,1M money.

What are Toyota like when it comes to maintaining, garage costs, servicing etc? I know it won't be a scratch on BMW costs, interested to know though?

With Toyota servicing/maintenance is more of an option than a requirement lol, they are usually very cheap to maintain, hell my twin turbo Supra has lower running costs (bar fuel) than my mum's Fabia and I'm doing everything by the book.

Some people might not want a BMW. You can compare it with loads of cars. Hell, that GT500 was 35K wasn't it?
It's always comparing with BMWs/M3s on here isn't it?
