Total Lunar Eclipse - Saturday 3rd March

Infact Lunar Eclipses cause the Moon to appear a very Blood red colour - this is (i believe) due the the fact that the Earth's atmosphere refract's light from the sun but only in the lower, red wavelengths. In partial lunar eclipses the moon appears an orangey/red colour but during total eclipse it is blood red! it's very cool!

I'll post this before the thread dies.. Can someone catch some good shots of it please, weather pending ofc. :)

I would take a few snaps, but in all honesty it wouldn't be worth it unless I had a DSLR. :)

/continues to geekasm over space related topics....

Yes you should be able to see it anywhere in Europe.

If I remember I will revive the thread on Saturday, when more people might be interested.

Knew I should have posted in the Photography section :o :p

Im going to a hill nearby which should give a good view of it, and there wont be too much town light to get in the way.

damn, my SLR attachment for my telescope wont arrive until mid next week.

its actually for a digital SLR but im sure i can rig my film SLR up to it.

I may just try and get my normal digi setup with a bit of wood and tape for the occasion :D

Every major solar event for the past 10 years has been ruined by cloud for me!

wait i've just realised its actually Saturday night isnt it? ie, tomorrow @ around 11pm. im stupid, why did i think sunday :o

Any idea how long it lasts? I'll be working till about midnight and I could get some awesome shots with my 500mm

Just bumping the thread for those interested.

Spuds, I think it will last around 1 hour or so for the full eclipse, but Im getting out around 7:30 to get set up.

Fingers crossed for clear skies. I've just got a Sigma 70-300mm lens for my 400D. No tripod though. Have to see if I can improvise something.

Skies clear in portugal :p

Hoping to get some good shots.

Help me out in the photography section if you will.

Josh

Temperamental here, some huge grey clouds over and on the other side nice blue sky.

At least my forecast has gone from snow to partly cloudy, should be good enough hopefully!
