Total War:Atilla

I have been trying for the past year to enjoy Rome 2, but I just find it pretty dull and gamey. And I am someone who played Medieval Total War as my only game for a year and a half back in the day. Rome 2 just feels so clumsy.

I won't be buying Atilla unless people are still singing its praises a long time after release day, after which I'll wait for a 66% sale.

For anyone who missed the video :)

Ill preorder it as soon as it comes up on steam. I enjoyed Rome 2 on day one. I never had any performance problems. And who plays vanilla total war anyway, its always been mods that make the total war games shine.
I love total war gamesmy favourite was medieval 2 total war, with the stainless steel mod and third age mod. Worst was empire, not because of its bugs or anything, that was easily sorted with mods. I just had no interest in the time period or naval battles.

Also:

"The family tree is being brought back after being left out of Rome 2,"

Thank god. It was such a stupid, stupid idea to get rid of that in the first place.

And to replace it with nothing was even worse...

I remember really enjoying the tree aspect of Rome I, where you could take an interest in generals careers etc.

Exactly!

They took a hell of a lot of the "soul" out of Total War with Rome 2. I know it sounds a little lame but you could sort of write your own stories with the characters and family tree etc in previous iterations but that was all ruined in Rome 2.

Probably idiots in charge thinking that change = better. I just wish, so much, that stupid people that think this are not put in charge. Change =/= better.

Yeah, why don't devs just listen to fans? No-one wanted trees removed. I think they come up with concepts that sound great on paper but they can't make them work in game effectively. As has been well established by now this release was forced on CA and was nowhere near finished.

The Warhammer title is being created by a separate team apparently and who knows when that will come out.

Looking forward to picking this up...... in a steam sales in a couple of years time hahahaha!

That's my punishment for the Rome 2 conjob. Will be voting with my wallet this time round and for another medieval game I surely hope not if thats what CA thinks of diplomacy should be.

If they include all of the promised features AND it is not overpriced then I will pick this up. Rome 2 is in fantastic shape now, but it took a while!

Hopefully this title will lead to Medieval 3!

I'm guessing this must be one of the least hyped Total War releases ever. Few days from release and I have to necro this thread from September.

Anyone planning on buying this? £30 seems a bit steep for what seems like an expansion. I guess I'll be waiting until it's about £15.

Some reviews popping up now:

The setting does nothing for me I'm affraid, and the game comes across as an expansion pack similiar to Fall of the Samurai etc did.

Im sorry to say but this is the first Total War release im probably going to skip, my money is waiting on their upcoming Warhammer title.

This has flown under my radar a bit. I'm still debating whether to get this, but it does seem intriguing. The key role played by the map itself (like harsher and harsher winters descending southwards) could make it a different experience from other TW games. I quite like the idea of a desperate struggle for survival rather than the gradual expansion of the rest of the series. Plus: family trees are back!
