If Sven did such a bad job, why were so many City fans sad to see him go after initially hating his arrival? There are no two ways about it, he did a good job.
Most of their bad results came towards the end of the season when the whole backroom saga started. Had it not they'd have no doubt finished even higher in the table.
most fans were sorry to see him go as the first half of the season(and more like the first 8-10 games) he appeared to have completely and utterly turned them around. the end of season6/7-1 drubbing might have had some issues going on around it but they were poor FAR before then.
He spunked money on crap strikers, some of which have left, some of which barely/never played. Elano looked a steal at first and a coup, and then most of Manchester, and Sven realised it was neither. No one else wanted him and no one else would have paid as much for an incredibly, massively inconsistant performer and he was one of those reasons they flopped after he got crap. Petrov's form then dipped and their results went out of the window.
He took an, remember this, already massively improving club and basically did nothing, under pearce they would have most likely gotten the same. THe defence was essentially "fixed" under pearce, just lacking any goals, first half of last season petrov and elano were the fix for that, 2nd half, they were the same as under pearce. He didn't improve them in the slightest, has no tactical knowledge and no ability to motivate players in the slightest. Still his only real success came at Lazio by almost bankrupting the club spending 247million to buy the title by buying almost all of the top 10 players in the world, comparitively, for the time he spent way more than chelsea spent on their squad.
Spurs are ridiculous, ok the strikers wanted out, thats fine, but we all knew that months and months ago. Same for Arsenal who failed in bids on the final day of transfers, why not get the transfers out of the way end of season and have your whole new squad available for training on the first day of pre-season and not have these problems. If you want to save a couple mil on a player by hoping at the last second they'd have to agree this is what happens. They didn't get in who they wanted in the end, and now have 3 strikers, one unproven in a top league and one who did ok in the championship. Then bent, the most overpaid footballer in the world(relative to his talent) right now. A whole string of not even close to world class midfielders(smells like liverpool) with no obvious first choice 4 in midfield because none show any consistancy whatsoever. No out and out defensive midfielder, inconsistant and unfit defence.
The only thing that isn't their fault is Keane and Berb leaving, what is their fault is, theres no reason Berb deal couldn't be done 3 months ago and a replacement sorted before the Euro's. I'm not one to take the complete pee, the idea Spurs will be relegated right now, is ridiculous, and unless it all goes seriously insane they should get some wins and should do much better, but the idea they'll come even close to top 4 seems ludicrous. Villa have been the team improving most in the past few years and look most likely(as they did last year) to be the ones to break the top 4 if it was to happen.
