That is horrendous. I guess anyone left above the fire may will have to fend for themselves?
The fire may have started somewhere between the 2nd and 4th floors according to some eye witnesses.

They are, quite literally, death traps. I would hate to live in an old tower block.
New external cladding added a couple of years ago...
Oh I'm not saying they go up every week, but if I was living on the 20th floor of one of the surrounding tower blocks this morning I wouldn't be feeling too happy. In the UK though this is possible the first major tower block fire in decades (by major I mean spread across more than a few flats).
May have resulted in complacency and some are saying an incorrect response from the fire services at the beginning.
In America all buildings will have a separate fire exit. Even if that needs to be bolted onto the outside of the building.
These tower blocks only have a single stairwell. This will hopefully result in some kind of change.
I've been inside blocks like that. No sprinklers in most places and not in flats.
Unfortunately they won't be clear of smoke. You don't get automatic ventilation like in modern buildings. People are reporting that stairwell was full of black smoke from 2nd floor onwards.
Extremely saddening and the worst thing is that it could have been prevented.

Looks like they knew of a risk although that's from last year
