Toyota Yaris GR4 4x4 Rally going into production.....

Its just how cars have got, I used to track a diesel and I'd get people coming up in the paddock telling me how weird it was to see me coming by passing this that and the next with zero noise, thing is in the car it sounded good to me inside (for a daga daga) so I was enjoying myself anyway, so don't mind what its sound is like outside so long as I enjoy it inside, my MX-5 is the reverse, people wonder what's coming due to the racket and are disappointed that it's just an MX5 :D

There was a link to the Toyota technical presentation on that evolve vid I had not seen and it doesn't appear to be in this thread so will post it here too, in case others like me have missed it.

Bristol demo has been delayed to mid month sadly, was expecting a test this weekend.

Oh well still looking forward to it, I can’t see me cancelling it anyway the amount of seemingly justified hype there is.

Yup they dropped me a line too, I'm still on the fence, wondering if its time I grew up acted my age and bought something sensible, the test drive will probably help make my mind up and trim down my eclectic next car list.

Its a tuning box so likely undetectable but yes a nice start, as I drive around in cars with 190-220bhp these days the Yaris is already an upgrade for me, though the Yaris is a bit lardy at ~200kgs heavier.

I can strongly recommend not doing that :p. I got a new job and had to commute ~50 mins each way. Did it for a year in my old E86 Z4 and then decided I need to be sensible and got a 330e hybrid. An excellent, excellent car but I felt like I'd given up part of my personality. I was no longer a 'car guy' and it made have the big sad. In the end I decided to move house instead, now I'm 5 mins walk from work and it opens up such a huge range of car ownership options as the mileage isn't killing you on depreciation.

Yeah it depends how removable it is at the side of the road I guess, in case you properly break down before recovery to a dealer....
Hopefully we see some exhaust options soon.

I still have competition cars so my mindset is more do I need another small terrier I could have a wafter for commute, but yes I would probably still feel the same as you a little dead inside when you are on that decent road in the wrong car, I suppose, as I get this when in the missus SUV I always seem to be driving to nice places with good driving roads on holiday wishing I was in my own vehicle, so much so I am trying to convince her to up spec her SUV to something I might enjoy.

Interestingly I have gone from a 1hr 30 ish commute (Bristol - Maidenhead) to 30mins across Bristol and feel I need something less harsh for the Bristol roads, long motorway journey was fine, local roads seem so bad and mostly stop start but having done >90k on my Koni FSD adorned Abarth I think they are no longer working like they used to.

The Evolve vid above sounds like the GRY will soak up lumps and bumps better than a BMW and still be enjoyable, the sensible car I was considering was a 340/440 hence looking at evolves site for upgrade path as I can leave nothing alone, so I'm not talking massively sensible but the BMW is still a bit of a tank.

Similarly hyped to the 86 when released, that car is not so popular in sales after the initial hype has died down, unlikely to be much difference with this as its more expensive and even more compromised as everyday car compared to what is about in the hatchback sector but it does seem every other article in my feeds relates to it but of course that probably because I have been researching it and they are feeding me more of what I want :D

Wasn't the main gripe for that the power?

Yaris has the power and everything else

Personally I wouldn't be getting it for power of course, so you may have a point of initial hype

People said the gt86 was too expensive at launch. They reduced the price when they face lifted it I think. I see a lot more around than I used to. When I had mine I'd see maybe one a month.

Looks like the first piggyback tunes have arrived:

1.6T3Cyl (G16E-GTS) No7XXX Normal >> 272Ps / 370Nm >>> BOOSTRPRO >> 310Ps / 418Nm Price excluding tax ¥ 48,000

Not sure I'm that brave with warranties but it's a good start. That's a lot of torque!

Sent this to a friend who has a lot of experience with engine mapping (years working for a well known mapping company as a senior engine mapping nerd) who's also getting a Yaris GR, he responded with all the reasons its a terrible product that belongs in the bin :D
