Toyota Yaris GR4 4x4 Rally going into production.....

Wow the stock exhaust sound is literally nothing! Not surprising I guess

I agree with Nasher about the HKS still needs a bit more oomph but a great improvement anyway . All personal pref

Another nice sounding exhaust:

Seems to have a nice tone to it.

This car also seems extraordinary good on track, remember my EVO X and as a circuit car even in damp conditions, my 911 was still faster even on cup tyres. Does look like the AWD system and PS4S tyres really do seem to claw even more grip than expected, for 33k and hopefully Toyota reliability this car looks as awesome as a track toy as it does ultimate road car too.

Rang Toyota yesterday for general update and asked them for about limited availability and they basically told the allocation was 1750 cars, 750 was first lot, followed by 1000. I asked if more will come and they simply did not know, they did say they believe Toyota will not build any more than the 25,000 world wide allocation, but if a region has spare allocation then more stock could be shifted to UK or another region for example.

They also said due to its huge success then Toyota could decide to make more or a different version, but again an unknown, he just basically said be glad you ordered when you did as you will have a car in March, new orders are now September onwards and soon the order books could be closed.

Looking forward to getting mine, can see people dropping the weight on these to sub 1200kg, lion battery, light exhaust, interior strip, buckets can see them being very rapid with stock power, let alone tuned to 400-500HP.

Few pics of one at the track yesterday. Don't even care that the guy was in it no doubt feeling uncomfortable

Sounds like it needs a lighter flywheel. It hangs on the revs for ages.

Agreed, very noticeable to be fair. I do wonder though if there's a reason for it? Engine size or 3 cylinder being a factor?

I'm sure someone will fit a lightweight flywheel at some point and find out!

Could it just be rev hang that a lot of cars seem to have these days. My Mustang had it and I had it tuned out. The Aston also has it but just not rushing the gear changes sorts it out, some cars just don't like to be rushed on gear changes but if I tune the Yaris, suspect I will then I will look at it if it bothers me, the Mustang was quite annoying for it, whereas the Aston I've just learnt to be a little delayed on gear changes. :)

This felt a lot more exaggerated than rev hang to be fair, and was done when stationary.

But yes you're right, likely something to be tuned easily. I imagine a lot of tuning companies are working on cracking the ECU already.

I've seen Litchfield are already pulling their Yaris apart. Worth keeping an eye on them. Although I hope they do more with it than they did for the Supra. Just 2 basic remaps and that's it. 1 with downpipe, 1 without.

Its a Toyota, just like your Supra I suspect the tuning options shall be endless, all I plan on is exhaust, weight reduction without changing interior and extra power but nothing too insane, 350 be a nice target with about 1200kg. The above video impresses me how it seems so capable on a circuit on stock suspension as its soft yet flat, can smash those curbs and cheat all day long. :D

Just comes across as a car that seems to do really well on both track and road in stock form whilst being really engaging to drive, a real rarity in the modern world of cars to be honest. I can see it being the car I use a lot to be honest as its a great all rounder as long as back seats and boot space is not a priority.

Yup, already saw the TRD exhaust on an owner youtube.

I think this is electronics keeping the revs up to keep turbo spinning, seen it in a few reviews the car buzzing over 7k on a shift etc but it could just be a massive DMF to hid uncooth nature of a 3 pot.

I suspect the confidence of the driver in this case had a lot to do with it matched to a lot of track newbs in that vid denoted by the x stickers

Had seem some vids where a suspected GRMN version was doing the rounds so a new model could be likely, the car is generating a lot of buzz for Toyota.

Definitely a of potential in the package.

Had my test drive today. Not much to say really, it’s as good as everyone says. They’ve nailed it, feels like endless traction and a really really nice gear mechanism.
You do sit very high, I actually don’t think you’ll fit with a helmet over 6ft which is a shame. Steering wheel is a very nice shape and size, seats are comfy but not that bolstered. Massive rear view and infotainment soon disappear once you’re on the move.

Main takeaways for me were the lovely gear action, surprisingly not horrible fake sound and bags and bags of grip. Kept my order in, will run it alongside the 4c for aslong as I can afford it. Definitely will track it aswell.

Was your test drive at Bristol North, how was the experience, did you have time alone and the freedom to go where you like or was it a short blat down the dual carriageway and back.

Is there less head room than the 4C as it stands, I know I fit in those, just?

I am supposed to go in on the weekend but I may have to push out to next year due to boring stuff :(

Its funny I've heard a lot of good things about the gear change but I have also seen more fluffed gear changes in Youtube vids on this car than any other (in fact I don't think I have seen any fluffed gear changes besides my own :D )

South, but it was a car borrowed from North. Sadly an accompanied drive about half an hour, mix of dual carriageway town and tiny bit of B road. Enough to get a feel though only just.

4c on its lowest setting is much more headroom, if say it’s about the same as the 4c on its highest. I’m a short arse and I think with a helmet I could touch the pillars with enough bouncing.

If it's like the standard Yaris the seats are high. It feels like driving a minivan coming from a low sports car. It seems to be a modern hatchback thing in general.

Hmm, I guess I will see, I already hit the roof in the MX5 due to longish body but modified seats to fit, I'm not actually tall just freakishly proportioned :D 4C just about worked on the car I drove, I never tested low due to not being easily adjustable

Test drive booked for week starting 11th January. Been warned they might have none left by then but I think Toyota will make as many as can sell, at least during this initial period of high demand. Could just place an order but really want to be sure I'm doing the right thing, and I know if I place the deposit I'll likely go ahead with it.
Pearl white likely going to be my choice. That or probably red anyway.
Then will have to decide whether to keep the MX-5 30AE RF which was supposed to be a keeper :). The yaris would enable me to return to one car again - currently running two due to the obvious flaw with the MX-5 (space & I hate parking it in carparks!)

The GT86 was like that too, especially when cold. I think it's a down side of having a short throw as you have less leverage over it (I'm guessing it has a short one). It can make it more notchy as well.
