Toyota Yaris GR4 4x4 Rally going into production.....

0% on 24 month, 1.9% 25-42 month. Has the demo arrived up north? I’m waiting to hear from Bristol, I think it might have but the sales team are all furloughed until next week.

Yeah they have the demo but no drives due to lock down rules at moment but should be good to go next week hopefully.

Its not a limited run car, so wouldn't worry about that, don't understand buying something without trying it so I won't order until I have tested it.

Deposits are totally refundable, they wanted £1000 from me to enter it into a build and don't want the remaining £6000 odd until its closer until delivery as they have already pre-approved the finance so to speak.

I did that for the Model 3, it took so long, this one at least has a more realistic time frame, perhaps I will do that too, I didn't see that it was refundable online, I will read again.

How big do you think the market is for a compromised little hatchback outside of a niche market of enthusiasts?

25000 is not limited really :D

I just rang and spoke to the sales guys, they said £1000 secures the build slot and allows the test drive, I then panicked and rang again yesterday asking did that £1000 really get me a build slot or do I also need to pay the additional 6k now and the sales guy confirmed the car was ordered for me when I paid the £1000 and he gave me my order number. He then set me up on the APP so I can track the cars progress and current ETA is around middle of March, think he said new orders are now looking at around May time. He said the balance to pay will be closer to delivery. Interest free is for 24 months and 1.9% is 42 months, I am just gonna go with 24 month option and will just purchase the car at end of it as suspect in two years time if they no longer make them for whatever reason they will still be worth north of 25k. Special cars hold their money and that is when I am happy to buy new like I did with the Mustang which lost me pretty much nothing.

I asked about heated seat retrofit and it was a big no which is fair enough not that fussed but as its a perfect Winter car heated seats be nice, though Abarth aint got them but I drive the M5 most at the moment which has tremendous bum and back warmers.

P.S. The sales guy also said but did not confirm he believe a price increase is coming soon on the car also which makes sense as Ford did exactly same with Mustang's first V8's were 35k with all options and that quickly rose to 37k and then near 40k, which helped secure future values also. I don't doubt this as every review is 10/10 and the build ETAs keep getting longer so I suspect they have great demand, the motoring enthusiast is eager for fun modern cars as they are so rare nowadays in the world of paper performance, emissions and EV's.

A Yaris should not be so close to getting into the 12s at quarter mile lol.

Toyota have made an absolute bundle of fun, good in a straight line, totally bonkers in the corners and all being well a Toyota so reliable, minor service is £145 and major is £375 so its cheap to run for the kind of performance, though that award still goes to my SVR which was under £400 for a major service at Jaguar for a 100k car that does 60 in 3s.

The test around Castle Combe was good recently, had quick flick through that, came 2nd with two other cars joint first (McClared and Atom I think).
Did you decide on the colour? For a long term keeper I'll be going with white if I decide to make a purchase, the pearl white. I like the red too and probably will sell less of those which is a good thing for long term I think (might be a greater demand in the future on the used market) but think white less maintenance to think about (reds still fade these days?). You previous note about price increases has been a bit concerned though. I want to make mind up mid-Dec.

Flat white, as I feel flat whites are brighter in all weather and the fact its free, so my choice. I am planning to wrap the car in a metallic orange, similar to orange Lambo's come in, to make it even brighter. :D

Yup the Type R would have it on a dry day and on a circuit, two different sectors really if you ignore price, very close though.

Very close as a fun back road all weather car I don’t think much will beat the Yaris on enjoyment or ability. The Honda even in rolling races is behind until 100 only into triple digits the Honda shows it’s muscle and the race is over by then on a public road anyway.

But I will say that Honda has improved in looks since they come out looks less like it crashed into Halfords Ripspeed department these days.

Sure maybe, though if you’re not buying a GR for track use then surely you’d be better off with something else then? I.e. Golf R / Focus etc.

Im not buying for track use I’m buying it as a fun road car that will work great in all weather and I’ll probably put it on track to see what’s it like but compared to what else is in my stable I think some of my other cars will be more fun on track of course I could be wrong on that.

Just fancy a small AWD hot hatch with good reliability and warranty that should be a riot and engaging to drive. The only other real option was go and buy an EVO X manual but had one of those and it’s bigger and heavier than Yaris.

Who know might drive the Yaris and find it junk but I seriously doubt that to be honest spoke to a mate who works in press who has driven it and he said it’s literally one of the best cars he has driven in years for engagement and fun, so it must have something about it and it’s a pretty safe buy anyway would be easy to flip it for what it cost but that’s not my plan.

I’ve owned Hondas and they are epic and the new Civic is great but I simply don’t want a Civic and for me the Yaris is more ideal.

If I was buying a car for track work I’d not be looking at road cars be straight to Caterham and if I wanted a road car for track work I’d be straight to Porsche and a GT3 I am planning to buy late next year or after but I’m in no rush as I’ve got five cars and I am just updating the fleet, the 458 is a keeper as is the S2000, the Abarth will be changed for Yaris, the M5 for an Alfa QF and in a years time I plan to change Aston for a GT3 I’m waiting simply as I think I wanna go 991.2 GT3 manual which is an extra 40k over the 991.1 GT3 so am just gonna wait until I’ve got the cash to buy outright.

I'm often dubous when i see motoring journalists claiming a certain car is the best they've diven and the most fun they've had in a year for years, all while they're powersliding it around a race track.

In this case I have no doubt this Yaris is great to drive though.

All the drives are mainly on road and my mate who has had one who has had lots of nice cars absolutely loves it, the sung it such high praises and he ain’t easily impressed.

JayEmms video is probably the best to watch for an unbiased view of how the car compares to other similar cars. He's also got a Celica GT-Four so has experience of Rally specials.

I absolutely trust him but also know him personally and he just says how it is of course what he may want in a car could differ from me and you but generally his reviews are harsh and to the point so generally if he says a car is good then it’s damn good.

How much were Golf R’s? See plenty of those too.

5DR Golf R is practical and not limited production, so a bit different. :p

According to dealers our of the 1750 UK allocation about 1400-1500 are now sold.
Am sure there will be another batch of cars later next year, but nothing is ever certain.

For those that have placed an order, how have your toyota dealers been regarding doing some form of deal? I've already had a test drive, but they are not willing to do anything on price at all.

Unsure if this is across the board or just this dealer with me? as I thought some folks had suggested they'd managed to get some money off list.

I made the mistake are not trying, heard on the FB groups someone got £600 off, not sure if any truth in it, but to be honest I am happy to pay asking price so though £600 in my pocket would be nice its not end of world and I suspect as they seem to have pretty much sold them all now and rumoured price increases coming for second lot why would they discount something if they can sell it twice over.

Mine is still on for March delivery. As that time gets closer I will still try and blag at least a tank of fuel, still not even had a test drive yet.

As much as the wait for the car is annoying. Its not a bad thing, let other people discover any "teething" problems and the aftermarket release a few bits and bobs.

I am keeping my eyes open for mudflaps and maybe some interior bits. Also wouldn't be adverse to some exhaust mods to release some 3 pot sound.

The latest HKS sounds pretty nice, not offensive loud but a much better tone than stock and engineered to prevent boom in the cabin at low RPM.

Yes I have seen that, and it does sound quite tasty. Not too over the top! But I have never been too sold on blue tips (ooooh eeeerrr).

By the time most of us get our cars, I am sure some of the UK manufacturers like Miltek and Scorpion should have something.

Over on the GR Yaris forum JCR have released a titanium exhaust at circa £2k!

True, 2k is way to much for an exhaust to be frank and a part of me says leave it stock for simple fact you can drive fast unheard. :D

Are you only referring to your current cars?

Well true, but the SVR I left stock and I think it was Mustang before that which admittedly had several different exhaust fitted looking for right tone/noise, in the end I left it with the loudest most obnoxious one I could find. :D
The 911 before that was stock though too, apart from X51 manifolds. I've lost track a little to be honest.

Another nice sounding exhaust:

Seems to have a nice tone to it.

This car also seems extraordinary good on track, remember my EVO X and as a circuit car even in damp conditions, my 911 was still faster even on cup tyres. Does look like the AWD system and PS4S tyres really do seem to claw even more grip than expected, for 33k and hopefully Toyota reliability this car looks as awesome as a track toy as it does ultimate road car too.

Rang Toyota yesterday for general update and asked them for about limited availability and they basically told the allocation was 1750 cars, 750 was first lot, followed by 1000. I asked if more will come and they simply did not know, they did say they believe Toyota will not build any more than the 25,000 world wide allocation, but if a region has spare allocation then more stock could be shifted to UK or another region for example.

They also said due to its huge success then Toyota could decide to make more or a different version, but again an unknown, he just basically said be glad you ordered when you did as you will have a car in March, new orders are now September onwards and soon the order books could be closed.

Looking forward to getting mine, can see people dropping the weight on these to sub 1200kg, lion battery, light exhaust, interior strip, buckets can see them being very rapid with stock power, let alone tuned to 400-500HP.

Sounds like it needs a lighter flywheel. It hangs on the revs for ages.

Agreed, very noticeable to be fair. I do wonder though if there's a reason for it? Engine size or 3 cylinder being a factor?

I'm sure someone will fit a lightweight flywheel at some point and find out!

Could it just be rev hang that a lot of cars seem to have these days. My Mustang had it and I had it tuned out. The Aston also has it but just not rushing the gear changes sorts it out, some cars just don't like to be rushed on gear changes but if I tune the Yaris, suspect I will then I will look at it if it bothers me, the Mustang was quite annoying for it, whereas the Aston I've just learnt to be a little delayed on gear changes. :)
