Track Car Project

Yes it's most likely going to be routed off to the left of the engine bay. The oil feed used to go directly in to the air intake though as part of the pcv emissions system so it won't be doing any harm in it's current location.

It will make a big difference if it breathes heavy mate, specially on a stand alone system

You will also need to get the trumpet length right to make sure its actually making some power rather than just sounding good!

Has anyone done it before who you can ask?

I have seen a few Pumas on track before, a standard fettled one was going round as quick as a FRP!

Yes your right I'm expecting a good few months of experimenting and tweaking to get the system running at it's best, but to me that's what a project is all about and I'm sure it will be a great feeling when it's finally running at it's best.

There's a fair amount of room to play with different trumpet lengths and also a lot of scope to smooth the air intakes with a dremel, so I think I'll get to work on that. However I'm not expecting big power gains until we get uprated cams to take advantage of the ITB's.

I can't find a great deal of info on the web of people who have done this to the 1.7 so any info would be greatly appreciated.

It's a good point about the noise levels, we will have to get it measured to see what we're dealing with.

Hi again everyone. Not much has happened with the car since January, mainly because we've been busy at work and there have been a lot of bills for our daily runners (tyres, servicing, insurance, etc).

We picked up a set of Team Dynamics Pro Race 1.2's in 15" last weekend for the price of £100. They were badly curbed as shown in these photos.

Today has been spent refurbing the wheels, here are the wheels minus tyres when we started this morning.

Here is one of the wheels with primer.

And a painted wheel.

Of course we had to continue the green theme with some green detail on the engraving.

The wheels are very light, 6.1kg each from what I can gather on the internet. The next step is replacing the glass with polycarbonate, which is hopefully going to happen in the next few weeks.

Nice job on the wheels, but it's probably not the best idea to go putting slicks on it for your first time on track with it, they are very unforgiving and nowhere near as progressive as road tyres, and when you're driving an unfamiliar car on the edge the last thing you want is snappiness. Use road tyres until you get a feel for the way the car behaves when it's at/past the limits of grip :)

Good advice, slicks are for day 2. Get used to it first then look at gaining ultimate grip for when it goes on slicks it goes quicker and your typically also going quicker.

Good advice guys, hadn't thought of that. We have a set of standard Puma wheels with road tyres which we can use first.

his and his mates MX5s (so 7 and 1/2 sets of tyres per MX5)

Presumably for an entire season in the MX5 cup he's racing in.

Just to keep you guys updated we are currently doing the cheap jobs until I can find another job and Phil gets rid of his Audi for something cheaper (currently on finance and costing a lot each month).

Last weekend we fitted bonnets pins and boot springs, removed the standard bonnet catch and boot lock and also started removing the sound deadening that is stuck to the car.

A real PITA of a job but should be worth it in the end as it seems quite heavy, so far the whole boot sound proofing has been removed and the interior is being painted white. We have also acquired some pro rally wheels as seen below.
