If you had to put a chunk of money into vanguard right now, say around 25k, what fund would you currently pick? The money is not vital or earmarked for anything, so I can afford to be bit less conservative than I would otherwise be, and will be a long term investment. I am leaning toward the lifestyle fund with all shares, but anyone's thoughts would be appreciated.

Maybe consider VUSA (US S&P 500) and maybe VWRL

Finally got an email saying I can open a 212 account, Been so long since I applied I'd forgotten all about it...

VWRL

Yes I did, sorry! Ok thanks. What about if I was looking at around 5 yrs?

Its tricky, probably the same advice but it comes with a higher risk, less chance for your capital to recover from a sell off. The traditional 'lower risk' funds that include bonds have tanked this year as bonds have been routed so it just shows there is no such thing as low risk in this game.

In truth I can probably leave it in 10yrs if needs be so will probably go for the vwrl and see what happens. Thanks for all the help.

Opened a vanguard account about 2 years ago. £30k split between 80% life strategy and £10k s&p. Currently 6.5%ish up. Having recently just locked in a new mortgage deal 6 months ahead decided to sell 25k and I’m going to put it into my mortgage prior to when the 3.29% deal kicks in later this year. Guaranteed £6k plus in pocket (so to speak). Don’t like where things are heading.

I have VWRL (over 30ks worth)L ,its doing great ,its very weighted towards the us obviously as its proportionate to world markets but also tech heavy , top exposures are Apple Microsoft Amazon Alphabet Tesla ,its also worth bearing in mind its an unhedged fund( trading in dollars) ,this has been a bonus most of the time i have held it .
This is just a personal thing but i wanted to have a home bias ,share in the pain or glory of my country so i also added VUKE ,having etfs means i can bail in seconds ,not that i will ,it even went up today ,the interest rise priced in maybe?

Thanks for the info. I think in truth I am better off topping up my pension given the tax relief I will get back on that, but it just feels so dull to do that!

There's nothing dull about minimising your tax burden  receiving tax back at higher rate is much more satisfying than basic rate admittedly.

A staggering amount goes unclaimed among higher and additional rate tax payers each year.
