Trading the stockmarket (NO Referrals)

GVC gone Ex Div today, Div will be over 7p, but share price only dropped 1.5p, effectively giving us a 5.5p price increase :)

Expecting CNR to consolidate back to 3p tomorrow before rising on news. Looks overbought today.

IMO, GVC looking good and will probably move up next week now it is ex-div.

Good luck all DYOR, etc.

I just saw AU were the top faller today by 16%. They were quite a nice earner for me earlier in the year and quite a solid stock. Their trade statement just reported in-line expectations and the markets have caned them for not growing at the tremendous rate they have done.

Will be watching it closely tomorrow, along with CNR. If they do drop I might put a bit of cash in, but I already have 2 penny stocks.

Whats with all the CNR hype ? Surely the company is not predictable enough with dramatic movements like that in the share price. Have they got any big finds coming up soon causing investors to hedge towards them ?

Any more thoughts on how RRL will do ?

Starting to get nervous about MTA again, yet another RNS due on progress and yet another RNS about MacQ's share movements. All this has happened before, I forsee more bad news on the horizon...

Yes waiting for drilling results.

RNS just released- SP is bouncing around all over the place again....!

GVC flying again as well today! Hope a few got in before it went Ex-Div yesterday- up 5% and only fell 1% on a 7.5% dividend yesterday- very bullish indeed!

Hi all,

Quick question -

I think I can buy shares without having to pay for them immediately - usually you have to pay for them after 3 days right?

Does this mean I can buy shares today without having the funds available, and sell them tomorrow, and then not have to pay for them until 3 days after the initial purchase, by which time the money will be back in my account?

Is this possible? (I do appreciate that there's a risk that the value of the shares will drop while I'm holding them and then not having enough to pay for the intial purchase.)

Also, given I have an account with III, how can I extend this settlement period on a purchase and are there any downsides to doing so?

Thanks!

?? Are you trying to buy on margin or something? Certainly a normal dealing account will want you to have the funds before you buy.

Unless you know what you are doing, (and it sounds like you do not), I would not do anything with money you don't actually have.

No, nothing fancy, just wondering whether what I described could be done. So what's the purpose of the T-3, etc settlement dates then?

Beginner, but learning - part of which involves asking questions like these. ;)

I would not do anything with money you don't actually have.

It wouldn't be literally with money I don't have, just with money that is currently tied up in other shares, so a portion of them could be sold if necessary to cover any losses that may occur. I appreciate your concern though! :)
