Traffic filters will divide Oxford into six '15 minute' neighbourhoods

@MichaelAwkward
I have only the firsthand testimony of the people I was speaking to to go on. I haven't driven through the neighbourhoods myself yet. But the journey from Summertown to Cowley Works was mentioned as now being especially problematic because everything has to go around the ring road. Apparently Marston Ferry and other similar parallel routes are not available, I'm told.

They've been problematic for 50+ years as the volume of traffic has far surpassed what the ring road was designed for. The junction at Barton Park opened in 2017 which further slows the flow of traffic going North to East, but the Headington and Cowley junctions have always been bad.

Nothing to do with LTNs, as there currently isn't any that would stop you making that journey through the city centre still. Cowley Road has a reduced 20mph limit until you get nearer the ring road but no bollards or anything. The main journeys currently affected by LTNs are those entirely within East Oxford going North East-South West and Cowley going East-West down residential streets between Henley Ave/Iffley and Cowley Roads.

Well I visited Oxford this week, my first since the introduction and traffic on the Ring Road was worse in places than previously. Speaking to my local friends they largely think it's a nightmare. Want to go from West of the Town Centre to North of the Town Centre drive out down the Botley Road join the ring road then fight your way back in on either the Woodstock or Banbury Road. That must be so annoying. Apparently the bollards have been subject to a lot of vandlaism by annoyed locals too. Want to get from the North to the East now your only choice is the Ring Road and that is now more snarled than ever. Before you had 2 or 3 different ways of cutting across the city.

Honestly this stuff is going to cause real antagonism as it's spreads across the country.

Whilst I’m sure your local friends were a fantastic sample size and range of people, it would appear the basic facts as pointed out by local posters refute what you are saying, as does all current Oxford voting results in the real world.

People like to moan and there will always be a vocal loud minority, but the reality is, that for those of us who live in cities, they are designed to serve us actual residents, and LTN’s and ULEZ’s do just that.

So actual experiences of people who live with the impacts aren't facts, interesting. Also the refutation actually said that some of the measures are in place in parts of the town, so if your journey would have crossed those areas you would be affected.

No it is indeed a fact that your sample size gave you that feedback. I don’t dispute that. The relevancy in comparison to actual polling and election results pale in comparison, but nope, definitely not disputing that you have friends, I’m sure loads of them, and they have their opinions.

QANON Anonymous podcast has a good episode on the 15 minute city concept.

They interview Dr Annie Kelly, a historian with her own podcast.

This has happened in my town centre as well (in the posh bit), the residents facebook group was filled with people who said it would kill Bristol. Funnily enough, it’s just raised property values and made it far nicer for those of us who actually live here to live and shop.

And let's face it, people who live in Bristol need all the help they can get.

:p
