Traffic light GP in a FWD car- whats your technique

there are other ways to deal with people like that.

on the saturday night just gone, i had some plum in a tarted up c-class merc about 2 inches from my rear bumper on a 50mph dual carriageway.

i pulled over to let him past (ie was 2am, dark, he could have been a copper).

when i moved over he passed slowly which really winds me up, so i parked mine on his rear bumper also.

the muppet then tries to speed off, weaving in and out of traffic. he doesnt get far and is still just in front of me as we go onto the next round about... so i followed him real close again.. pushing him a bit faster and and bit faster again.

.... eventually he spun in a near piroette, but hit nothing.

with a bit of luck thatll teach him for driving too fast and driving like a plum

I rarely launch in my octy vRS, maybe a handfull of times. Always feels like i'm just burning out the clutch.

I did a couple of g-tech runs the other day and the clutch hasn't felt the same since

Although it's probably just in my head!

Problem is... planting it in 1st and then in 2nd is too much fun.

Street racing and then making someone spin out of control, bit harsh!!!!

i wasnt racing at all. i followed him on the a-road (50 limit) at maybe 54-55 so nothing too attrocious.

i was definately under 50 on the round about too.

High to max throttle, and keep the wheelspin in check with the clutch.

Normally that's going to kill your clutch but I only have 60bhp.

TCS off > 3500 RPM > Sidestep Clutch + Plant Throttle.

Bit of chirp then you're off.

Well works with an LCR in the dry anyway. :p

My technique in the company (hire) car is simple.

Turn it on, put it in drive, slam on the accelerator.

What about those of us who can drive stick? :p

As previous, in the Clio I dump the clutch ;) I challenge anyone to get a good launch in a Clio Cup without doing so. You can have 10 goes at it (not in mine I hasten to add :p) and I bet you wouldn't get more than 1 good launch.

Key to launching a fwd is to get the car rolling before fully bring up the clutch, otherwise they just wheelspin from the shock of dumping the clutch.

Well after having to pull onto the A47 from a standing start at rush hour I found that get rolling and off the clutch asap (fully off clutch at around 2500 rpm or there about) then plant the loud pedel works quite well :D

I have found this to be the best way too. Bit of throttle, clutch up some of the way and feed it out as the power gets fed in. Too harsh and you get a burnout or very bogged down, too little and its just slow.

Nothing worse than trying to launch hard in the damp in a TGLP situation either!
