So as well as Shane Long, supposedly Florin Gardos is effectively now a done deal for Southampton at £6 million, and now that Rojo is being linked with Man U the Southampton rumours have stopped and apparently now we're chasing Bosnian winger Senad Lulic from Lazio instead.

Also rumours about Biabany but highly unlikely, given half the rest of the league seem to want him too.

Schurrle is going nowhere this window... He's an important member of the team, he's young and improving rapidly, Mourinho likes him, and Chelsea have no need to sell.

He gives a very different attacking option to Willian, and we know how Mourinho likes to have different tactical options available to him. Plus he can play as a centre-forward in a pinch - a position Chelsea are still weak on. Atletico don't have the financial muscle to make a 'silly money' offer.

Short of Schurrle putting in a transfer request, I really can't see it happening.

Shifting Schurrle out would be absolute madness, bags of potential and I think will be a key player for Chelsea this season.

I agree - it wouldn't make much sense.

If we were to sell Schurrle, then we'd need to find a replacement. Moreover we'd need a replacement with his same profile - an attack minded winger who (ideally) can act as a CF in a pinch.

The only reason it'd even be worth considering is if we were chasing (say) Reus. And I highly doubt that he'll leave Dortmund this summer. I suppose Di Maria would be a viable replacement though.

Di Marzio is a fairly reliable source generally speaking, but the transfer just doesn't make much sense.

Mirror saying Hull might go for Welbeck... £14m. Then Lindegaard might want to leave. Abandon ship! :p

It makes sense for Welbeck if 3-5-2's going to be the standard formation, given Rooney and RVP will shirley be the front two if fit. He needs to be playing football if he wants to continue getting caps for England.

Getting rid of Welbeck would be like a new signing in itself for United :D

To be fair he's probably about right for Hull. He certainly shouldn't be anywhere near any of the top clubs.

Spanish papers reporting that Cuadrado has settled on a move to Barcelona. If so, that's another potential Man U target off the market...

Not sure where he'll play in the squad, unless he's happy playing as backup, or as a fullback.

The issue Man U have at the moment, is they just cant get the deals over the line due to lack of Champions League football.

It's a downward spiral.

Miguel Delaney at ESPN says we've now turned our attention to Benatia, just the defender we need. Miguel is pretty good, and the move would make sense.

Mourinho did rule out a move saying they're sorted in defence.

Welbeck to Hull would be a good deal for around £14m. Can't lose both him and Hernandez though.

Edit, the article: http://www.espnfc.com/manchester-un...ted-turn-to-mehdi-benatia-as-impatience-grows

Sounds as if we're not doing a good job thus far...

He'd be an ideal signing for United. I saw Jose's comments saying that we aren't interested. Fair enough really - not a position that we desperately need to improve right now, though it's something that will need to be addressed next season (probably).

... Still holding out hope for a cheeky plot to grab Pogba for silly money, but it doesn't seem likely :p

Selling Torres and buying Bony would be another nice coup, but again, doesn't seem to be on the cards.

Great bit of business for Hull City getting £12.5M for Shane Long. Can't believe Soton had to pay that much to get him.

All sorts of rumours flying about who Bruce might get in to replace him, with Welbeck (hmmm), Troy Deeney, Remy (not going to happen) and Bendtner (hmmm) amongst the names being touted.

This Rojo transfer sounds like it'll be complicated. Doyen (who part own him) have released a long statement here: http://www.doyensports.com/en/comunicadodoyen.pdf

Basically, the majority of the fee will go to Spartak and Doyen, rather than Sporting, so Sporting are refusing to sell him to us at the current 'agreed' fee, which is €20m.

Rojo and Doyen were told he could leave for €20m (and have this in writing), but now Sporting want €30m. Doyen are threatening to sue them. It seems his official release clause is €30m.

Also interesting:

According to a source close to the deal, should Sporting refuse to sell to United for the €20m offered, the Portuguese club will be contractually bound to pay Doyen 75 percent of the value of the rejected bid. That €15m would have to be paid within a fortnight.

As far as I can tell, anyway.
