Transferring RAID array to a new rig

This morning i woke up to a dead rig, i wont bore you with the details but after 5 hours of trying to fix, the idea of starting again with a new PC (was due anyway) was looking even more appealing.

My RAID array on my current (broken) rig was mirrored, and used the onboard FakeRaid on my motherboard.

My Question is, when i get my new PC, what's the best way to get my raid array back up and running. (I will be keeping the same HDD's from my old system)

Also, If i just plug in a single disk from my RAID array, will it be picked up as just a normal drive, with the existing partitions in tact and visible?

Any help greatly appreciated

Matt

If the old array was RAID1 (mirrored) then you can plug a single disk in and it will just appear as a normal single disk once initialized and a drive letter assigned, and you will see all of your data

As for putting them in the new rig, to be on the safe side, I would back the data up to an external/seperate source first, just incase you have to manually copy it back. Re-create the RAID1 array on your new motherboard and select the two disks, boot up to Windows, initialize the array and see if the data is there, it should be with it being RAID1, but if not, copy the data back to the disk from your earlier backup

If the new motherboard has the same RAID controller the raided drives will be picked up and it will work straight of the bat.
