Transgender MTF picked for Olympics weightlifting

That's the case currently anyways. There's a line drawn for the use of PED and all the team doctors are going up to that point, trying something that's just not banned yet (but will be in the future) or just stepping over it and hope they don't get caught.

Indeed, although the % of improvement is still fractional otherwise you'd be seeing the countries with the best pharma absolutely destroying everyone time after time. What we have seen in weightlifting (since I'm a fan and follow the sport) is that bribery/corruption and dopplegangers are more commonly used to get around tests or positive results not getting back to WADA than the drugs themselves being undetectable, and positive tests are nearly always for the same old compounds that have been around for decades like stanozolol or nandrolone decanoate (aka Winstrol and Deca for the bodybuilders out there).

Just for comparison, in weightlifting male athletes lift around 30% on average more than women of the same competitive level and bodyweight. In Hubbard's case you have a regional level male, so the 30% average leapfrogs Laurel straight past all regional and national level women and up to being among the top 10-15 most elite women in the world, even accounting for age-related decline.

I think this is a valid discussion to have, and find myself (someone who broadly considers himself a trans ally) coming down in the middle of the argument. I lean towards enabling them to compete overall, because I believe anyone who is prepared to transition in the public eye isn't doing it to win some medals, and anyone who believes so is the kind of cynical I don't think can ever be cured.

Arguing genetic predisposition of men to being stronger/faster in sport and athletics, as a reason to not allow trans athletes to compete in their gender category, seems kinda dumb to me because that's an arbitrary line you could move in all kinds of directions.

All that said, IDGAF about sport or athletics enough to be bothered either way. I just wanted to note that having the discussion shouldn't be an opportunity to be generally transphobic and pointedly mis-gender trans people. I've read through a few pages of it now, and it's pretty disappointing from what has seemed to be a reasonably mature forum.

You must be new here. Sadly there's a thread like this once per month where it's a-ok to openly hate trans people or just flat out deny they exist.

It took you 12 days to come to that opinion?

Who in the thread comes across as hating trans (saying this person shouldn't be able to compete against biological woman is not hating)
If someone thinks that this person or anyone else in the same situation shouldn't be able to compete in female sports does that make them transphobic?
Dont think anyone has said they dont exist unless I missed it....

Not inherently. I think it's possible to discuss the topic respectfully without intentionally mis-gendering, which is definitely transphobic and something I've seen plenty of.

You expressed very ignorant and bigoted views in earlier posts.

The fact that you posted a reply like this insinuates guilt on your part.

It has been recommended to you several time to educated yourself on transgender issues, I gave you links etc but you continue to seem to be dodging that information....

LATEST NEWS: Hubbard has won gold! what an achievement! Fully earned!

But no you are not a dinosaur, anyone who has common sense knows transgender women athletes have a big advantage, regardless of testosterone levels.
Its funny how its never a transgender man competing against men, because they would get destroyed and expose how much of a farce it is.

Good point actually

But that's the whole point, Hubbard is male, once you buy into the idea of calling him a her, then the reasons that should prevent him from competing against women goes out the window, after all, women should be allowed to compete against other women.

There is no way of expressing the reasons why Hubbard should be competing against men without stating the obvious fact that apparently you think we are now not allowed to say because it's disrespectful.

Hubbard is a woman.
