Transgender MTF picked for Olympics weightlifting

You know why.

I actually agree it's insensitive.
It's not a disability

But even if it wasn't its going to offend.
You just can't do that now.
It's genuinely a no win. Because the very people who get offended by this are the very people who are also going to get hurt. Along with in this case all women.

No, I don't thus the question, why isn't it?

I'll put forth the positive claim here, which I'd thought was obvious, if you want to dispute it then actually go and dispute it, don't just come out with lame non-arguments like "you know why".

Gender dysphoria is a medical condition, previously known as gender identity disorder. It is treated medically (suppressing testosterone) and sometimes with surgery too, the result of that treatment (when it comes to males) inhibits performance relative to other males.

Makes plenty of sense that people with that medical condition could have a special category in the Paralympics.

Why is that insensitive relative to everyone else with some form of medical condition/disability that competes in those games?

Full gender transitioning can leave you infertile and / or unable to snu snu.

Over 40% of trans people commit suicide.

I would consider that to be a bigger disability than depression or anxiety.

The fact that liberal society has decided that 'gender dysphoria' is no longer a disability is exactly why we now end up stuck with all of these kinds of problems relating competitive sports and everything. Instead of trying to treat the condition we let these people live out their mental illness and fantasy.

The best thing to have done from the beginning would have been to ignore them.

And as Dowie pointed out, if it wasn't a disability then we wouldn't need to be 'treating' it both medically and surgically.

Not all trans people suffer from gender dysphoria.

I'm not even going to address that previous post or 2.
There are too many posts that will result.

Let's just say I disagree as well that its a medical condition that needs fixing.

True, but then they have no good basis for complaint in the first place really, if they've just consciously decided to identify as non-binary as a political position on gender or perhaps dress as a woman etc..* why should that mean they get to race as women?

People with gender dysphoria who undergo medical procedures to treat it on the other hand have a more legit argument that they're simply that way, they want to be able to compete and be represented, they'd have a disadvantage relative to males but an advantage relative to females, this is because of medical treatment ergo the Paralympics seems like a good solution here.

(though in reality the non- gender dysphoria in the binary cases perhaps works the opposite way around - perhaps more likely a female "tomboy" or "butch" lesbian identifying as male)

Ironically that is a very anti-trans argument - you disagree with sex change-related surgery or hormone treatments for trans people?

Bit of a cop-out to take issue with a post and then be unwilling or unable to actually put forwards an argument.

A Japanese female football players comes out as a trans man.

https://www.channelnewsasia.com/new...tball-player-kumi-yokoyama-comes-out-15060072

Strangely there's no suggestion that she will cease playing women's football.

Where's the TWAW / TMAM crowd here?

Because even with artificial help to get her testerone up to more typical male levels she would stand little to no chance of being competitive in men's football.

This is actually an interesting point. If there's a significantly high chance that the sportsperson in question will reduce their competitive advantages by playing in mens' teams, I wonder if far fewer people would move over.

Hang is there a para Olympic event for people with depression/anxiety then?

On this case I come down on the its madness side. I’m all for trans rights but you may as well give her the gold now. No way any of the other women can fairly compete against her when she has the muscle and bones of the man she was before. This will backfire badly on trans women.

And a lot of broken legs.

We used to play football at work with a load of colleagues. One day a women colleague said she wanted to join in. We agreed as what could possibly go wrong, we are a bunch of **** amateurs? We tried to be careful, but that did not go well. Turns out a 75kg guy slamming in to an average size women is like them getting hit by a car.

Isnt that percentage the perfect reason not to become trans gender?

Not AFAIK, is there a need for one?

It's not guaranteed that she will win necessarily, there is a Chinese competitor with a strong chance for example, it's just the unfairness aspect really: a 43-year-old, previously mediocre male weight lifter (when lifting in men's events) suddenly has Olympic medal potential now...

Isnt that percentage the perfect reason not to become trans gender?

What do you mean by that? I'm not sure it is something people can just opt-out of on a whim.

I'm honestly pretty sure I have low testosterone.

Cant gain mass off any kind on my body except the fat on my stomach, and was always atrocious at sports and co ordination events.

Except I'm also weaker than same aged females so I can't go winning gold medals in women's sports.

Yes yes, you keep chumming the waters and eventually someone will take your bait.
