Transport Tycoon - OpenTTD

I was just restarting so people who were new, such as Nieldo who has now stole all my methods of track building and become a tycoon, could learn to play the game.

I guess we could start a big game, name the settings: map size, companies, towns, breakdowns etc, and i'll get it put up :)

Ok, in Configure Patches options

Under Vehicles set:

Realistic Acceleration for Trains = On
Max Aircraft Per Player = 0
Enable Building Very Long Trains = On

Under Stations set:

Allow Drive-through road stops on town owned roads = On

Under Server settings:

Map Size = 1024x1024
Start in 1950s
Towns = Normal
Industries = Normal
Sea Level = High (More islands! Harder)

Everything else as default :)

I have a Linux box with an openttd shell account set up, problem is the server isn't on all the time atm since I haven't found a good home for it in the house. I'll start it up anyway as I'm not sure if the correct ports are opened.

Kind of need one on most if not all the time, Sinque used to host one which was up all the time.

Anyone want any other settings? Want it quite difficult to make the game last a while.

I'm out at 6 until about 7/8 so when I come back i'll set all the config up and get the game running.

Ive stolen a few of his/your methods as well:)

One thing though, how do you keep the resources producing with only a one train line thats long? A lot of the time my resources seem to go down to 40 tonnes or so, which im guessing is due to it not being visited often due to long lines?

Have to ensure you've got a fairly decent pickup time otherwise goods etc disappear.

Scroll down to Industry production :)

Looking forward to getting the game going, hopefully should be more of a challenge. After you get past the whole loan thing its pretty easy to get shedloads of money.

Also want to develop my own track style after lending heavily from windle and sinq :)

I'd perhaps join if it's truly dedicated and not restarted any more ( as with duke, that's the reason I got bored with openTTD, I hate restarts, prefer 1 massive game).

I request these settings if possible:

in Configure Patches options:

Realistic Acceleration for Trains = On
Weight multiplier for wagons = 3x ( or at least 2x, but 1x is just too little and imo unrealistic, trains accelerate WAY too fast and underpowered trains reach their max speed too easily :()
Max Aircraft Per Player = 0
Enable Building Very Long Trains = On
Max station spread = 24
Allow Drive-through road stops on town owned roads = On
Allow removal of more town owned roads & buildings = Enabled
Vehicles never expire = Enabled ( that doesn't mean u don't have to replace the vehicles after xx years, but it means they never disappear from the build list or become obsolete, a must imo as I hate maglevs and monorails and stick to elec trains far into the 2400's)

Under difficulty settings:
Initial interest rate: As low as possible
Disasters: Off
Max loan: 200k
Breakdowns: Reduced
Towns attitude to area reconstruction: Permissive

Under Server settings:

Map Size = 1024x1024
Start in 1945/1940
Towns = low
Industries = low
Sea Level = normal

New GRF sets enabled:

Enable Generic Tram set ( included iwth openTTD)

Rest of default settings look OK-ish.

All I can say is be REALLY careful with your money as the loan is small and the interest is high, so don't dive into massive tracks straight away. This is a long haul game and requires patience and stamina - prepare!

I'll put it up later on tonight so people can get a game plan underway with more difficult settings and can read up on the game mechanics :)
