TRESSFX: A NEW FRONTIER OF REALISM IN PC GAMING

You need to entertain the possibility that he might actually be right and you wrong.

He might be right when he claims that PhysX - an API specifically for processing physics is a carbon copy of Open CL - an API for heterogeneous computing ?

Sorry this thread has taken a detour into pants on head retarded and I'm out.

You shouldn't always assume they are or that roff absolutely is the only one that can be wright?

its like, why?

Well, I didn't say anything like that did I? It was simply don't put stock in reps on the strength that they're reps, as well, they can be anyone, even total nut jobs.

Infact, don't put stock in any PR on the strength it's it's a company employee/rep talking.

But put more words in my mouth please.

If it is hair "physics" I wouldn't be disappointed in the slightest I hate it when i'm playing a third person game and the hair is just static clumps of brown with no movement, it kind of detracts from my immersion. But that could just be me.

A dev. chat with Jurjen Katsman of Nixxes (Tomb Raider) just took place here and one of his replies was this:

Question: With your partnership with AMD, will there be any features in Tomb Raider that will be exclusive to gamers with AMD hardware, and unavailable to Nvidia users?

Answer:No there should not be. AMD has always been quite clear about that as well. We are working on features that are specific to the PC platform, but if they are DX11 features they will also work on Nvidia DX11 hardware.

Someone also asked about Tress FX - his answer:

That does look pretty interesting doesn't it? :) More on that tomorrow :)

yeah, i think it will be hair, and i'll be really pleased too. more polygons in games every year is great and all but i'd like better animation of humans, which includes hair

I think we have enough power from DX11, it hasn't matured enough yet to have shown it's full capabilities but it's still pretty damn amazing. Definitely time to start working on physics and realism more. :)

I see the red and green handbags are out again.

I thought you AMD boys didn't care about physics much anyway? A lot of you said it adds nothing to games, lemme guess AMD's version is gonna be like OMQWTFBBQROLLS lets look at her hair flow around in the wind like a L'Oreal advert while I'm getting shot at in the head.

PhysX and physics aren't the same thing. I'm up for good hardware physics that isn't PhysX. This isn't "AMD's version" either. It's just an open hardware physics API, something I've been saying needs to come out for a long time, but realistically wouldn't until the lowest common denominator could run it.

PhysX adds nothing to games, and do you know why? Because developers can't do anything beyond token effects, if they tried to implement it in a way that influences the game play, then you'd NEED an nVidia GPU to run it, and no dev is stupid enough to do that and cut out a huge amount of potential customers.

Drumroll... and yep .. you guessed it.. it's GPU hair! :P

Through painstaking collaboration between software developers at AMD and Crystal Dynamics, Tomb Raider proudly features the world’s first real-time hair rendering technology in a playable game: TressFX Hair.
