TRESSFX: A NEW FRONTIER OF REALISM IN PC GAMING

Hopefully it doesn't just stop at hair and is employed elsewhere in titles, early days, but hope it's a start and not a one off.

Wait is that TressFX serious? its marketed as 'hair product' to render in game hair?

the Loreal thing was a joke, turned out to be true, looool, hope it does more than hair as well :D

it's been implemented in a real game, and it makes people look less like cardboard cutouts, and it isn't locked to amd so developers will actually want to use it. good guy amd.

looks like this is wrong, every article I've just read says it is locked to AMD hardware, so it's another yet dead end until someone creates an open version of the same thing

ok i'm just reading through amd's promo page and haven't seen anything about it yet, but if true that's disappointing even as an amd user. goes against the developer quote earlier in this thread though?

edit: from the promo site: "Graphics cards featuring the Graphics Core Next architecture, like select AMD Radeon™ HD 7000 Series, are particularly well-equipped to handle these types of tasks, with their combination of fast on-chip shared memory and massive processing throughput on the order of trillions of operations per second." sounds very much like amd have made tressfx work "more optimally" on 7000 series cards, or they're advertising them that way, rather than locking the technology to amd hardware. the wording just sounds like they want you to buy a 7000 series card because they're "better", not because other cards can't do tressfx

yeah, the AMD press release itself is suitably vague, just saying that it will work better on GCN, but places like Bit-tech seem to have assumed that it's AMD hardware only

Bit tech very rarely know what they're talking about, same for custom PC, which used to be my favorite magazine until the BS was too much.
