I think you should start a Tri and Quad GPU owners thread as a lot of the things that come up are similar regardless of whether you are using AMD or NVidia.

PCI-E bandwidth
Card spacing
Cooling
Drivers and CPU bottlenecks
4K
Mixing different cards or not
Card placement order
Overclocking
And plenty more.

My first objective, Mantle Tri Fire at 1080P and 1440P. Let's see if we can get average 250fps with 5ghz and 3x290's at stock or with a small overclock. Thief has been improved too, so what will the 3 gpu setup do now at 1080?

Mantle is not Mantle with three cards, to get 250fps you are going to need a very big CPU overclock.

To get the best out of Mantle with 3 cards go max settings @1440p and run your CPU @4.4 or somewhere around there.

With extreme fps and Mantle think of it as removing the CPU bottleneck by another 10%, you will still need the GPU grunt to get that 10% though.

We'll see. That's the aim Kaap, let's see what i can achieve. Either way ill be looking to beat your Thief 3 gpu scores at 1080P.

That's what I'm going to find out. I will also be requesting benchmarks from you Petey so that i can ensure my stock scores are there or thereabouts. It's handy that our systems are pretty much identical, bar your slower memory.

You should be able to beat my 1080p and 1600p scores easy as it is all about CPU clockspeed.

@4K it is a different story and I can let rip with the full power of those 290Xs without being bottlenecked on the theif bench.

Not so sure about the 1600P score as i can only run 1440P.

Kaap i would like you to try and improve your 2 and 3 gpu 1080P scores plox using Mantle. I want to see what difference the update has made. Its added more than 10fps onto your average score at 4k.

I've just thought, doesn't the Rampage 4 Extreme (non-black) allow you to put cards in the 1st, middle and last slots, meaning 3 cards with 1 slot between each?

This isn't helping me resist tri-fire! While I had considered it I was able to resist. Then this thread came along and started me thinking again!

Must resist the urge...

I'm also thinking i need to move to 6 core eventually, but that's further down the line. I'll see how the 2700k copes first.

With dual slot air coolers you can't avoid at least 2 cards being next to one another, the x79 rampage extremes have active slots 1/3/5/7.

@Matt if you want 16/16/16 the x79 ws does this.
