Tri-Fire AMD Brethren

Damn you Matt, you make me want to xfire my 290x tri x !!

Although I'd need to also upgrade my I7 920 and 630w psu, and also get an ssd so my desktop feels as quick as my laptop :p

With dual slot air coolers you can't avoid at least 2 cards being next to one another, the x79 rampage extremes have active slots 1/3/5/7.

@Matt if you want 16/16/16 the x79 ws does this.

Aye but then i need a 6 core and I'm looking at £400+ green queens. I could afford it in a month or so but it's still more outlay. I will see how i get on and then reassess. I think it's a route i may end up going down though.

Do it man, it's so freaking cheap. You're talking a ball hair more expensive than one titan. :)

Seeing as how you're going all beast mode on the old wallet, how about joining me in some X99 goodness next month? :D

At the very least X79 kit on the MM will be flowing, lots of PCIE lanes. :)

Considering I got my 290x for a steal of a price, it would be good :p as much as I'd want to watercolour them, I love the tri x coolers so much

There's no space left in my pc now considering I have a huge phanteks cooler and massive ram along with my tri x card

Does that have PCI-E 4.0? I was planning to going all out for when that arrives and finally ditching sandy. I figure that would be a worthwhile upgrade. I know X79 won't get me that much of an upgrade, but it is tempting nonetheless. If only my 2700k didn't do 5ghz+ it would be a lot easier.

Matt send your cap to Rofl's house - it's hat eating time.

Rofl I demand gifs of the consumption.

;)

I'm also thinking i need to move to 6 core eventually, but that's further down the line. I'll see how the 2700k copes first.

It won't happen. Not for a very long time anyway.

I'll eat the hat if he does it before I do.

Matt's idea of watercooling is a cold shower to calm him down after watching too much midget pron.:D

But seriously, tri fire 290's does sound fun, though cooling on air could be tricky.

It will happen, but there are so many things i want to upgrade and improve before i do that. For example now i know my monitor dual dvi slot is knackered, I'm going to have to RMA that eventually before it expires. When that happens i will upgrade to 4K to tide me over, hopefully freesync capable.

If it softens the blow a little, a 5ghz Sandy chip is around the same if not lower performance then a 4970k with its stock 4.4ghz boost...

Can't you use the brown slot (that sounds wrong! (in4 LtMatt says it)) and the top and bottom red slots?

EDIT:
Like this guy has done (5th and 6th pictures):

Not so sure about the 1600P score as i can only run 1440P. :D

Kaap i would like you to try and improve your 2 and 3 gpu 1080P scores plox using Mantle. I want to see what difference the update has made. Its added more than 10fps onto your average score at 4k.

I will try 1080p when I get home from work but I don't think it will be much different.

The extra 5fps I got @4K I think was due to improved memory usage by Mantle, this will not matter @1080p.

Kaap are you familiar with this brown slot that GM mentioned?

I was wondering when you would want to talk about the brown slot.:D

It is actually black and runs @x8

It is best to avoid it for graphics cards as it can cause all sorts of setup problems. whyscotty tried it with three EVGA 680 classified cards and even with 8 Pack helping it would not run correctly. The 290s are less PCI-E slot friendly than 680s due to the incressed throughput so I think trying it would be very unwise.

Furry muff and good info.

I was not sure if the brown slot even existed, it's not a slot I'm too familiar with. I've certainly never put anything in it anyway.

It is no longer an option as the latest RIVE BE does not have the extra slot anyway.
