Tri-Fire AMD Brethren

It is no longer an option as the latest RIVE BE does not have the extra slot anyway.

Yeah, I was a little disappointed by that. I'm not sure you can ever have too many (full size) slots.

You're saying there was a problem with Nvidia cards? LtMatt and I are part of the AMD Master race! We scoff at things like SLI bridges! :-)

Also one slot would have to be 8x anyway with 3 cards. Although I think it's PCIE 2.0, which isn't ideal.

Can't you use the brown slot (that sounds wrong! (in4 LtMatt says it)) and the top and bottom red slots?

EDIT:
Like this guy has done (5th and 6th pictures):
http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2220054

Afaik the additional slot or slots in the case of other boards (xpower 2 has 9 x16 slots!!) The extras are ran from the south bridge rather then from the chip and may only run at massively reduced speed and may cause issues when used in multi card setups.

iirc msi said the extra 4 lanes on the x79 xpower were intended to be used with controller and sound cards etc... That would only rely on 1-4x of lane speed.

Edit: I would actually be interested to see how xdma cf functions communicating between separate pci controllers, that pic you linked is 7970's by the look of it using bridges for communication.

6 off topic posts in a row from CQ members and a mention of midget porn made me feel at home.

It's now a race between Matt, setter and Rofls to see who will follow our lord and saviour Snail in the ascension to the WC master race where brands and other such nonsense no longer matter.

I will say that nVidia did a limited run on battlebox edition SLI bridges that had the same visual style as the titan cooler. They even had LEDs that could be controlled in the same was as the Geforce logo.

But other than that SLI/Xfire bridges are a bit meh. Don't care much for or against them.

EVGA filled the void left by nvidia on the BB edition bridges: http://cdn.wccftech.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/08/EVGA-PRO-SLI-Kingpin1.jpg

I will buy a second, low grade rig to watercool first. Won't be risking the main rig, I'm too prone to the old schoolboy error. :p

Don't be such a fanny...

You've done enough fiddling to qualify you to get your hands wet without fear.
Seriously mate, it's just a matter of screwing things together.

I'm not a CQ member though. :p Not anymore. :D

It reckon it will be myself first, Setter 2nd and the OP (ie Matt) last. ;)
