Tri-Fire AMD Brethren

My RIVF takes an eon to get past the BIOS screen and no amount of fiddling has sped it up. It can sit on the BIOS screen for 10 seconds ish and then another 10 seconds to load windows.

It seems ok now, i guess it was just doing training on the first boot. Will see how it goes once i start tweaking. I'm not used to seeing so many voltages to change, it's a bit daunting at first lol.

Yeah, x79 slow to boot in my experience.

Z97 can be near instant if have all fast boot stuff enabled and hibernation.

So much so, I actually turn my PC off rather than sleep sometimes :)

I use sleep normally. So nice to be able to press a key and two seconds later pc ready to use. Best thing about win 8 imo.

So far so good.

Cpu @4.5Ghz @ offset -0.050v - roughly 1.25v-1.3v
Got the ram stable at 2400Mhz CL9 @1.65v
9-11-11-21-1T
4-96-7936-8-4-24-4-4-6
0-0-0-0-3-3-1-1-4-0

Intel burn test, 10 runs very high max temp 58c? I find this bizarre as my 2700k would be low 70's at this speed and voltage.

Better internal TIM maybe

Do the 3970X's have the old sandy tim or the new crappy ivy tim? Either way I'm amazed at the temps. I've even got the H110 Noctua Industrials running on silent speed. One thing i did notice, not having to use that H110 backplate was great. It really felt like a good connection to the board.

How are my timings looking? Should i change any others?

Sb-e uses solder, better temps are probably due to the larger surface area of the ihs on the chip.

Timings look fine, get bumping the base clock on 125, imc dependant you should manage to take it up to 2450-2550

Refresh interval can probably come down. Wouldn't worry too much that's pretty tight enough

All 2011 chips are soldered TIM. You get ones with better contact though

all are soldered till you go ivy z77 onwards z87/z97 (k cpu's)

-50 offset? what llc level you using ?

better cooling could be down to bigger surface area of those cpu's compared to a tiny 4 core idk oh and no igpu

I'm using regular LLC! I seem to be getting a lot of overvoltage, hence the negative offset. I may have to start using manual voltage if i can't sort it. As an example using 46 turbo and offset at 0 voltage is up at 1.45v. Any suggestions? I'm using cpu limit of 180%, could that be why?

Guess I need to post some pics of my liquid cooled trifire setup this weekend.

Give my neglected camera some use too :)

One thing though that is left to sort, but by no means high priority - afterburner never applies 3d profile automatically any more.

Hasn't done for quite some time. Be nice to get that working.

Cpu limit leave at 130. What else is left in auto?

try a lower % or level llc,its fighting the offset if its too high, thats why your needing more

it will be less of a jump if you can fine tune it
