Just watched the video at the top and I must be missing something.

Looks like a lot of jumping around a pretty sparse map and only one gun?

Like Halo team rockets really.
 
Its class based, different weapons for different classes, you can't pick and choose.

Theres about 15 or so classes, they don't all have a unique primary weapon though I think.

You've probably only seen the spinfusor weapon, the blue disk firing weapon because you unlock classes with ingame tokens that take a while to top up.

My first class unlock was the pathfinder, pretty much essential if you want to go fast and cap flags, highly recommend it as a first unlock since the light armors offer great manoeuvrability and thrust compared to their medium counterparts.

My favourite class to play is infiltrator got it maxed out, once you get the backstab perk its a fantastic stealthy class to play, until that point though its quite tricky you really do have to pick and choose encounters, infact even with it you still do.

Came well before Halo, pretty much the main aspects of it is fast paced combat with jetpacks and skiing along the ground as the main form of travel. Have a look at some videos on youtube and you will get a good idea.

This game is really fun, never played any of the previous tribes before. But for some reason is runs like crap for me at my native res 1680x1050, anyone else have performance issues?

Yeah i did, it was better but still poor, you kinda need all the fps you can get in a game like this. It's smooth if i lower the res, but that kinda makes my eyes bleed after 5 mins. Ahwell i suppose it is in beta.

I run pretty much the same as you but with a 5850, the game is maxed and capped at 75 frames per second. Try disabling vsync and maybe disaable frame rate smoothing.
