Between Diablo 3 and Dayz i have been massively sidetracked, still try to play at least a quick match daily to get my win of the day :p
 
Next patch details from hi rez stuff, some interesting stuff. Basically play with a weapon to unlock stuff for it sounds pretty good.

I wanted to update you on a couple important changes coming in the next patch to Tribes (tentatively planned for next week), as the changes might impact how you choose to spend your XP between now and the upgrade date.

There are a number of things in the next patch, including our largest to date re-balancing of the weapons (driven based on feedback directly taken from a council of competitive players). We will also be introducing a large number of new weapons, which are essentially variants of existing weapons, giving people more options to find weapons that fit their exact preferred playstyle. And there are a couple new maps.

Perhaps the biggest change, especially for newer players, is that we are introducing new ways to improve and speed player advancement (based on feedback from the community).

With the next patch, you will no longer spend XP on weapon and armor upgrades. Each weapon, pack, perk, and armor class will progress automatically towards their upgrades as you play with them equipped.

This is greatly to your advantage, as you can simultaneously progress many items in your loadout (up to 7), and save all of the XP you earn for unlocks such as new weapons and new perks. In general this will significantly increase how quickly you earn unlocks in the game.

Think of it as each item having their own little progression bar, and as you play it fills up and gives you free unlocks, until you master a weapon. The progression on weapons is based on your ending match XP (think of it as duplicating that value to each weapon), so it is increased by performance, boosting, first win of the day, and badge earning.

Some important things to consider:

- Any upgrades you have purchased prior to the upgrade will remain purchased.

- When the patch is live, you will no longer be able to acquire upgrades with saved XP, and your progression on your next weapon upgrades will start from the beginning for that particular upgrade.

If there are upgrades you wish to have immediately unlocked, it's recommended you purchase them now. Otherwise, you will have to start progression toward your next unlock from the starting point for that unlock. Keep in mind, though, that you may wish to save all of your XP now with the knowledge that future unlocks will happen automatically on the weapons you wish to play with.

We are excited about this change and are excited to hear your feedback and concerns.

Meh I don't really mind how it is now. I earn enough to unlock and upgrade weapons fast enough. This means I will actually have to use weapons to get them upgraded which to some may be fine but I only really use pathfinder so that's not going to happen.

Some guy last night was mentioning there going to nerf rock routes. I feel this should be left as it is.

I guess it will do what there trying to do and help newbies. What I think would help is splitting up players levels even more by having it as it is now level 1-7 then 8-19 and level 20+ servers. This will make it easier for newbies and please the better players by not having nublets ruining the game.

Yesterday I was killed just as I was about to cap when a nub in heavy would grab it and run off into our base instead of capping the flag. I had to stand in front of them spamming give me the flag for a few mins before they were either killed or managed to figure out that I should have the flag. Sad thing is it must have happened 5 times yesterday alone.

Most frustrating thing ever is when people seemingly don't understand what they have to do with the flag or that they even have the flag. How they managed to install the game in the first place, i don't know?
 
Yea yesterday a heavy managed to pick up flag without knowing it. He then decided to go trying to kill people on the other side of the map. Its times like these team damage is useful.

HiRez confirmed that the unlocks can still be purchased with XP, the alternative method is just an XP saver.

I have mixed feelings about this, sure rock routes bring a lot to the table.. and have made maps like Crossfire bearable for cappers. The Raindance left to left and Tartarus front to front are plain retarded, same goes for return routes that include rock bounces.

I'd much rather them stop rock bounces completely when you carry the flag, and to only nerf certain objects.

We will just have to see how big the nerf is, hopefully some rock bounces will still be viable.. as some are a very shallow angle, Drydock high to low for example.

As for the next patch, roll it on.. Raider nerfs and some new maps. :D

IMO sniper needs a nerf somehow and chasers need to be made faster. If a capper grabs at over 300 the only way to stop them is a sniper. High Res have elected a tribal council with players from all the top teams around the world to get it balanced.

The competitive scene is what will make this game last so they need to get it right.

Turn snipers to projectile weapons could be a good Nerf though not sure how the laser rifle would work.
 
Snipers are indeed overpowered, but I honestly can't see an easy fix.. say HiRez did what Jongo said, and make Snipers projectile based, I know for a fact no one would play the class. It would be near impossible to hit a target moving at 300 consistently enough for it to be viable in competitive play.

Cappers are unchasable when they make it off the stand at 300, but it's just as much of a Capper problem as a Chaser problem. Cappers move too fast, and HiRez make their maps too back to front friendly.

HiRez seems to be determined to make Rage a viable chasing perk, but I can't see that happening, even if they double it's activation limit would chasers take that over Reach? We all know just how crucial Reach is, it is invaluable when the flag is fumbling around in the midfield and can be the difference between winning and loosing a game.

There is honestly no easy solution, but I think a lot of it is just down to map design.

for a start they can remove falcon. A sniper shouldn't also have best smg in the game. Ridiculous.


Had an amazing match earlier. Fast moving game on Katabatic where both teams just worked so tirelessly and incredibly well. So many close caps and e-grabs by both sides. Then both teams were on 4 caps each for around 15 minutes with flags barely staying on the stands. The game ended 4-4 stalemate! I can safely say that match was one of the most exciting moments I've had playing a multiplayer FPS to date since my fps career began in the 90s - if not the most exciting.

It's matches like that, that make Tribes a truly special game.

Just listened to the 3 hour tribal council meeting. Lots of good ideas and confirmation rock routes are been patched out soon but also sniper will be nerfed.

Few ideas they mentioned to nerf sniper were:

Respawn inside base or with no energy so once cleared they kinda miss that 10 seconds of play.
Increase respawn time.
Decrease range in which cappers get spotted.
Not have there damage effect regen of path.
Add a health pack to the path on top of regen.

The main problem with snipers is them stopping the regen mid route before grab. And due to the sniper been nerfed the chasers are going to be buffed with what sounds like the rage perk been much much more effective.

Also two things I like is all smg and possibly auto weapons been nerfed but sounds like LAR is going full auto.

PS if anyone knows a EU team recruiting I wanna get into scrimming.

I'd like to get into the game at a more competitive level, nothing serious just a few PUGs, casual games for me to get the feel for the game.

I've been in the #tamixed channel for the past week and only seen about 2/3 games going at random times that I can't play.. the channel is pretty much dead.

I got invited to the private '#tamixed.pro' channel which has some of the top players in the UK, however I don't fancy playing my first game with and against a bunch of the best in the UK, it's mainly made up of guys from Hindsight, idk, Heartbreakers, wai and uE.. matches are quite frequent at a few per day though.

The EU scene is just a mess atm, groups have just splintered off into separate ways.. if everyone just played PUGs / Mixes in the same place we'd have games going all day.

Nope, never played a mix.

Though Shaz invited me into the #tamixed private channel.

Very few teams and those that are there are already pretty set. Im really looking for a emerging team that wont kick you out if you miss a match or something.
 
Yea it sucks. Need to find a decent custom server where better players hang out. Pubs are really not a challenge anymore.. Jim what position you play? Have we played together before?

I like to consider myself a pretty versatile player, I typically find myself getting frustrated in pubs and playing whatever helps most, I enjoy pretty much every role apart from Sniper.

That's probably my problem, not just picking one class and playing that all the time, I just can't help but play what we need.

I don't think we've played together.
