Tribes uncontacted by man - facinating

Uttery irresponsible thing for them to have done, they have no idea how their flyover will affect the tribes future actions from here on in and as such they may very well have forever changed the course of it's ultimate demise.

Most probably the affects wont be too big but goodness know what they must be thinking.

I have to agree with this. These actions could be perceived as a number of things.

Visit from the God's
Some kind of phrophercy coming true - Mass suiside etc

Either way its going to affect them in some way, good or bad.

I'm worried that some journalists will take a convoy and go seek them out... can you imagine how devastating that would be to be thrust into the public and introduced to our society that way?!

Umpa-Lumpas ?

AS D.P. says, anthropologists don't tend to go and watch these indigenous peoples anymore. It tended to result in massive misconceptions, and as you say the peoples tended to be quite affected by the intrusion.

That said, this mostly happened in the victorian era, and early 20th century. It consisted of a rich well to do fellow going to "some godforsaken place and study the natives, what what" with copius amounts of gin and tonic being consumed. Oh, and a noce healthy dose of missionary work.

That was soon realised to be a rubbish way of doing anthropological fieldwork. Now they tend to visit indiginous peoples and live with them, talking to them in their native tongue (or through a local translator), working with them to understand their lifestyles. The idea being to try to leave your own culture and background behind to avoid pointless comparisons and ethno-centricism.

It is very rare to find a completely unaffected indginous society, I certainly didn't hear of it happening while I was studying anthropology anyway.

The right thing to do is just leave them, and for goodness sake keep Bruce Parry and Bear Gryls away!

I don't get these comments. All societys evolve. When we invented boats and went top the far east it must have changed both societys. Why should we stone wall them. Sounds like we don't want to make contact as we like them as some sort of museum piece that we don't want to lose.

Wow... now for a couple of really active explorers to pay them a visit and see they die out within months from diseases we may or may not be immune to.

For some reason I find this really interesting, I mean these people have had no contact with the outside world and have their own beliefs and way of life, untouched by fuel prices or industrialisation. They are so primative, they attempted to shot down the plane with spears and arrows!

I want my own tribe, it would be like some kind of strategy game or something and I could drop in different items and see how they react and use them, based on the fact that they have no idea what they are for.

Am I the only person to think that they look like Urak Hai from lord of the rings?:p

wrong they obviously must have seen the helicopter so they are aware of others existance.

Yes, but the "others" to them, may or may not be some kind of deity or God that have the ability to fly up in the air with a loud thinggie.

They may or may not prepare for the "next coming" of such thing or even prepare all out war as they might have deemed it as a threat.

I'm not sure how I feel about these photos being taken. On one hand, it's really interesting to see that there are still tribes on this planet who don't know anything about all the outside corruption and technology. On the other hand, who knows what even this flyover will do to their civilisation. I'm not sure that it is right for us to assume that we have a better way of life than they do, and even this amount of contact could cause problems for them.

This is intresting.
Its all about understanding we in the civerlised world understand planes were used to seeing them, and know there no threat. but to them we dont know what they think.
Now compair that to us now seeing UFO, and how people react to that. We dont know what it is, some people deniy that they exist saying people that see them are mad/imagining them ect. Others are scared by them and others want to find out more.

I think it's because we'd destroy their society, sadly. Doesn't it happen in other places, the kids go and see the bright lights of the city and get seduced by what they see, so they don't come back and the tribe dies. Add to the that the aforementioned dangers of introducing something that our bodies can handle, but which would kill them.
Is that a bad thing? I'm not saying we have a better society. Because I think they do. But it's human nature to explore and to evolve. It just feels like we are stonewalling them like a museum piece. Rather than for any real reasons.

Is destroying their society and way of a life a bad thing?

How about are victorian lifestyle? or the lifestyle under the Romans or the Vikings. Evolution is natural. We aren't killing them.

We wouldn't be actively destroying anything. Just show them and tehy show us things. They have the choice to do what they want. It's not like the days of missionarys.
