So today I tried to heel and toe for the first time at speed, have been practising around town at low speeds for a few weeks. I was doing 45/50 in 4th or 5th and tried to drop to 3rd.

Foot on brake, swivel and accelerated whilst clutch went in. Heard revs go up and shifted and clutch out. Felt OK, no jerk. But when I tried to change gear next the gearbox is all jammy?

So when I try to put it into gear there is a lot of resistance that I have to push through.

What have I done?

(its a Fiesta so I've not killed something massively expensive)

Help please!

Last two cars i had with tough engagement was due to linkages needing work and a scarred clutch plate or something that swelled when hot.. apparently younger cousin took my car one weekend and did some fancy footwork and damaged it.

If its the linkage his gear knob would be loose in gear but he didnt answer, if its a fried clutch plate the bite would be tough. Hope its the linkage tbh, easy fix

Thing is the bite was fine (was a 1.9Tdi FR Ibiza) only the engagement of 1st, 2nd and reverse was tough, sometimes reverse would not engage unless i shut the engine off. I thought it was the linkage on that one but they checked it and i saw the state of the clutch plate.. bad. Smooth as butter when changed.

I'm not sure if its loose in gear? Do you mean the gear stick can move about?

It is literally just hard to get into gear at the beginning and then once the initial resistance is passed, it is fine.

Cheers for the help,,,,,

I own a fiesta and wanted to learn to heel toe to improve my driving ability for when I move on to better cars.

Everyone has to start somewhere.

Yeh posted on PH for some help as well.

Will have another drive in the morning and see what is wrong.

Dual carriageway approaching a roundabout is probably your best bet, it needs heavy braking as mentioned above.

Even better, do a track day and you'll have your technique sorted in a day.
