I personally disagree with you there - lets imagine you were approaching a set of lights on red on a long straight dual carraigeway. I could charge up to the red lights in 5th or I could lift off and gently decelerate as I approach the lights. As soon as 5th is no longer an appropriate gear to accelerate back up to my previous speed, I'd change down to 4th and continue to slow down - if the lights change before I get to the line then I am in the correct gear to gently accelerate back up to the required speed. Or would you be there rumbling along in 5th at 10mph and then block change down to 2nd?
