** TRIO OF WEEKEND BLOODY SILLY PRICES!! **

I was about to buy the zotac, but then i seen the reviews of the g1 at guru3d.
the hexus review of the zotac has the card around 5 fps better than the reference card, but the review of the gigabyte g1 at guru3d has the the g1 around 10+ fps better than the reference card, is the G1 that much better than the zotac card??, if so i think i will save a bit more cash and buy the G1 next week?

thanks

G1 Gaming: £629.99
Custom PCB
8+8 pin power connectors
Core Base Clock: 1190MHz
Core Boost Clock: 1291MHz

Zotac 980Ti Amp: £499.99
Reference PCB
6+8 pin power connectors
Core Base Clock: 1051MHz
Core Boost Clock: 1140MHz

So right off the bat the G1 gaming will be faster at stock and in theory should clock higher (silicone lottery applies). Though it is ~26% more expensive for ~10% more stock performance.

Your call but IMHO the extra £130 is not worth it.

What about after factoring in temps and noise? IMO still worst value but there's more to it than just 10% more stock performance.

The Amp doesn't look like an especially quiet card (though without being especially loud either), though I can't at this moment remember how loud the G1 is.

Hexus got a pretty good overclock out of the Amp.

I've had the G1 Gaming 970, 980 and now that I'm decided not to buy this deal, there's every chance I could have the 980ti version too. They are great quality cards, top performance out of the box, and the coolers really are excellent. In fact my 670 was a Windforce card too.

£630 is a bit steep though, so if you do decide to save a little while, with a bit of luck the Fury release will bring the price down a little bit.

One of these would be complete and utter overkill at 1080p right? someone please say yes as my resolve is buckling :D

To be honest, yes. A second hand 980 save you £200 and you'd struggle to notice a difference at that res.

To be honest, I'd love to snap up a 980 off the MM but even though I've been a member on the forums for five years, I'm not a prolific poster and was too slow in registering for the MM before they added the 1k post limit. There is no way I'm buying something off the 'bay and my 670 is really starting to get long in the tooth (had it since launch and still works perfectly but starting to show its age) so I'm sizing up my options.

If only the 980s would drop to £350ish.

I looked at the Palit but I'm not keen on some of the reports I've read about their warranties not being all that; I'd much prefer a ref or MSI/Gigabyte model which I know, is asking a lot for that price.

the gigabyte uses 3x75mm fans, the Zotac uses 3x90mm fans... for any given airflow the zotac should be quieter

with both cards there will be a balance of setting the fans to whatever noise level is acceptable and then tuning the boost clock to suit that fan profile

for the sake of maybe an extra 50-100mhz at the same noise profile, I really can't see the G1 being worth an extra £130

if I were buying a single card I would have stuck with the MSI at £575 and overclocked it as much as possible... at £499 I'm going SLI and will be happy with about 1400mhz with fans dialled down so it keeps below 80C
(I hate the way that Hexus do boost clock reviews and never tell you what actual boost clock they get, only what it says in GPU-Z, which as we know cards will then boost above on their own - other cards getting above 1300 in GPU-Z are getting 1400-1500 in actual usage)

It seems that no matter what the price a 980 right now, people want to see a drop. :D

I'm sure the price will sort itself out, but as I said earlier I use one at 60Hz 1080p and it really is the perfect card for that res right now. A 980ti would be a waste at that res, IMHO.
