** TRIO OF WEEKEND BLOODY SILLY PRICES!! **

I reckon two of these will be ok in an asus x99 deluxe - theres two pci slots between them, and i have a define xl case with a 140mm intake fan on the side, but i would really appreciate to hear if anyone has any experience with a similar setup with non reference cards in sli.

I ran 2*970 in the mobo in my sig. They were manageable but I had to tweak the fan curve which resulted in a fair bit of noise. It was an Air540 case by the way, so plenty of air flow. These 980ti run hotter than a 970 which is why I wouldn't want to try it with them.

I reckon you are spot on, give that Asus some sweet SLI-love!

I have the exact same case and had heat issues with 2x SLI 780s (one of which was a reference). Then the same with 2x custom AIB 290Xs. When I say issues, I don't mean unusable, I mean having to use custom (loud) fan profiles and zero overclocks.

I will never go multi-gpu again unless they were AIO or full watercooled.

So not "no problem".
A two slot gap can help a bit as I noticed with the board I sig when running sli. One slot gap on the formula. Whereas the cheaper z77 Asus v pro board i had previously had a two slot gap. Temps were about 5c lower on the top card. With 780 sli I saw temps as high as 85c on the top card. 65c max on the bottom one.

But you see, it is. Night and day difference if your visual cortex is accustomed to high-fps smoothness. Especially noticeable upon fast mouse movements.

This is of course mainly in regards to games viewed in 1st person; point-and-clicks are palatable at 60fps.

I can't stand point and clicks in anything less than 120fps! :D

But really, I do understand the sentiment. I play on a 120hz monitor but also on my 60hz TV, both at 1080p.

I notice the difference immediately, especially when I switch between the 2 playing the same game (witcher 3) so yes, sometimes 60fps can feel like a "jerkfest".

It's all relative!

I agree, every review of G1 says it's loud. People compare 970, 980 windforce etc but it's a different GPU. 3 small fans have to be loud with higher heat. G1 and Zotac (based on Hexus review) both have really good cooling with ability to adjust profile to be quieter. Difference in overclocking might be better for G1 but definitely not worth 130£ imo

I've got the 980Ti G1 and loud it is not. It's not as quiet as an AIO solution but it's also not loud, I'd class a 290X reference cooler as loud on a hot summers day.

I'm rocking a 980Ti G1 now, the fans are not spinning and when gaming I struggle to hear it if I have no sound on and under load it typically sits at 68-72c.

The only time it is loud is at 100% fan speed which it never even gets close! but it is nice having such powerful fan ability for benchmarking as with 100% fan temps do not exceed 57c. :)

Have you listened to the Zotac 980 Ti Amp! under load? If so, how does it fare in terms of noise levels against the G1?

Hexus has reviewed each card separately and it seems the G1 is 1db quieter whilst being 2c cooler. I'm not sure what the ambient temps were though. Just seeing if I should just go for the G1.

Tempted by a 980ti as an upgrade from my 780ti. Currently limited to 1080p on a shoddy old Samsung TV but looking to either get 3 1080p monitors or one big 1440p monitor at some point this year, the zotac card seems like too good an opportunity!

It was 43db for the G1 but then again I don't think ambient temps were the same.

Never easy to to judge noise without hearing, hexus rate my tri-x at 39.9db which in my phantom case is about same as my case fans and no problem, wind force 780 I have still sounds like a jet in comparison when it gets going:)but it's more a different whooshing sound as opposed to being louder really.

What's going on with the VAT?
