Following on from this thread, which had started to head off on a tangent, I'm very close to finalising the design of my new kitchen and have now got the arduous task of selecting a manufacturer.

So far, Rotpunkt is winning as they have the type of lacquered, no-edge doors that I want in the right colour (Snow) but I have also looked at various others as well. I'm after a matt white finish without edging on the doors, so some manufacturers are out of the running before they have even started.

Apart from Rotpunkt, can anyone recommend a good quality manufacturer to look at? I'm currently exploring Mobalpa (hadn't heard of them until I spotted a showroom near me), McEvoy & Rowley (who I think supply Hacker Systemat) and Beckermann. I have seen doors from McEvoy & Rowley with beveled edges on both sides, which are glorious. Painted, not lacquered, however.

If anyone is interested (particularly @PFarrey) the dimensions of the kitchen are 2670 on the left wall, 2680 across and 3550 on the right wall. Design is not finalised, but it's pretty close - any suggestions welcomed, however.

Check out Schmidt kitchens, we've gone for their handleless. Their units are about double the likes of DIY kitchens but they are true handless with nice bar .

The software used is Compusoft Winner. It's a favorite for designers of German kitchens. Most of the German manufacturers can order direct from this CAD software which ensures accuracy and minimizes human error.

I'll take a look at this when I am next at the weekend @glitch to see what it would cost using Nobilia's 'Fashion' range. Is it a furniture only price you're looking for?
 
Whilst it's not something thats essential. I'd have thought that as a keen chef you'd have gone for a double oven. Any reason you've gone single?

I'll have a look at them - seems to be a showroom in Camberley, which might be worth a look.

Yes, just units and worktop (Axiom Brushed Concrete, most likely) with fitting at the moment. I know what appliances I'm after, but they can be worried about once units are selected.

Good question!

Partly due to space, as I'd lose too much worktop with another cooker, but it really came down to usage - I simply wouldn't have need for one. I can't say I've ever longed for a second oven where I am now and I spent a lot of time cooking at other peoples houses, so I'm used to one, single oven.

Plus I'm having a pizza oven in the back garden... so that should suffice!
 
I was thinking more a double height one so you didn't lose worktop space. I think i'm considering that as we often run out of space when doing a roast or trying to do too much at once.
Would also be handy for when we're doing junk food for the kids but want to cook fish for me and the wife at a lower temperature.

Just can't quite decide if it's worth it for the rare occasion it'd come in handy!


Also love the look of that worktop. Might order a sample. Just need to decide on cabinet colour as we're thinking grey which would look daft with concrete worktops.
 
If you're not going for a double oven, at least consider getting an integrated microwave rather than a counter-top one. It'll look much better.

Oh, they are useless. Wouldn't even consider one. The top oven is invariably rubbish and only serviceable as a grill - and even then they aren't brilliant.

One good single oven means more to me that two, less practical ones.

Axoim have bent over backwards to be helpful and that worktop is about as close as I can get to the effect of the real thing. I've still got a couple more samples to evaluate, but I can't seem them bettering the Axiom.

Integrated microwaves are expensive and do nothing my £30 counter-top model couldn't do. I use my microwave heavily for all sort of cooking and counter-top wins every day.
 
The most expensive appliance in our kitchen is the Neff combi microwave and oven. It’s a fantastic piece of kit and functions very well as an oven. You can even bake in it!

We’ve got a Crown Zeluso Supermatt Kitchen. It’s a handleless bar system which might not be quite what you’re after, but to me it looks awesome. Crown aren’t necessarily the best in kitchen names but we couldn’t find anything remotely similar when we installed.

That's exactly the sort of system I'm looking at.

What colour/finish did you go for and are the doors foiled, edge laminated, wrapped, painted, etc?

I’m actually not sure what finish the doors are - they’re not painted for sure. I would imagine they’re plywood which is wrapped somehow, but I’ve not been able to see the join lines. We went for ice white and it’s been very hard wearing and easy to clean. Because of the matt white finish, fingerprints don’t show up which is nice!

I would definitely buy our kitchen again! Where are you based out of interest?

Ah, it's you - the person who inspired my kitchen design! Yes please, would love to know more about your kitchen and worktop.
 
I can't recommend a manufacturer as ours was made by a company in Leicester who use their own CNC etc but here are some pics of my home handleless kitchen (not sure whether it's true handleless though lol) if you need some ideas

I live with my parents (I'm 19) so yes I didn't pay for it hehe but it wasn't cheap. My mum mainly designed it the layout etc though and she is very happy with it :) Crazy how much this sort of stuff can cost! Especially appliances!
 
For those in the know, what are the main differences between a painted finish and a lacquered finish? So far I'm leaning towards two manufacturers; Hacker and Rotpunkt.

Hacker doors have a completely rounded profile and are painted. They also feel glorious in the matte finish - really tactile and the rounded 'back' really makes a lot of difference when opening doors, drawers, etc.

Rotpunkt doors are lacquered (apparently) with a rounded front profile and a squared-off back. Still feel good, but not as good as the painted doors from Hacker. The 'sharp' edge on the back is noticeable when you open a door, but it's not horrible... just different from the Hacker.

Which of them would give me better longevity? Colour and finish are perfectly fine in either and both systems have exactly the same carcasses, so the kitchen design is identical otherwise.

PS. Photos aren't the best... but should be sufficient?
