My TT whilst being on the 2004 plate year was infact registered on 20th March 2005, and therefore falling into one of the first batch of TT Sport's on the market.

That would make it a 2005 - 05 plate car

well nice to see that stating a side to an argument and helping the OP in his decision has been flamed.

You've not been flamed, its a discussion forum and we are discussing your opinion.

Finally someone of your knowledge would know that the current UK plating system runs from April to April

No it doesn't, it runs from March to August for the 0X plate number and September to February for the 5X plate number.

issuing plates on an "0#" plate and a "5#" plate (# = year number). My TT whilst being on the 2004 plate year was infact registered on 20th March 2005, and therefore falling into one of the first batch of TT Sport's on the market.

20th March 2005 would make your car an 05 plate. You first told us you had a 2004 TT. Now suddenly, after I pointed out it cant be a TT Sport if it was a 2004 its suddenly turned into a 2005? Interesting.

For clarity..

1st Sep 03 - 28 Feb 04: 53 plate
1 Mar 04 - 31 Aug 04: 04 plate
1 Sep 04 - 28 Feb 05: 54 plate
1 Mar 05 - 31 Aug 05: 05 plate

If your car was built in 2004 it is quite simply not a TT Sport. You've also told us your car has 225, further proof as the TT Sport has a 240bhp variant of the 1.8T engine. It also has bucket seats and a twotone colour scheme. Does your car have these?

Your car is either a 2005, or not a TT Sport.

Finally working your theory that a car with 4wd is not a sports car, then maybe you should inform Audi that their new R8 is infact a "Posh" coupe..

I dont know whose theory that is but its certainly not mine. My opinion was that the Audi TT was not a sports car, not that 4WD cars (or in the case of the TT, Front wheel drive cars that can send power to the back when the car feels its required, the TT is NOT a permanant 4wd vehicle) are not sports cars.

The TT is a posh Coupe.

Im not getting into if the TT is a sports car or not as im in your camp but it is permanent 4wd just not with a set split in torque. It is front wheel biased in its power delivery though.(We've been here before);)

You can't compare a TT to a 318, you should be comparing a TT to an 330Ci (2-door) or 330i (4-door). They are available at the same price range AFAIK.

I'd go with a 330Ci. Audi's are very unreliable.
