Turbo car reccomendation

With that criteria I'd probably only be looking at an Impreza myself.

3k wouldn't get me a Celica I'd be happy with, I'd want an st205, and not a fan of pulsars.

The Mazda is acracking car, just don't like them as much.

3k can get you a nice MY2000 classic Impreza.

For the 4WD comments, im now open to suggestions for RWD cars also

As for the noise of NA vs turbo, yes a nicely tuned NA engine does sound better than a turbo (think 3.0 VTEC honda NSX on tbs) but for my price range, a turbo will sound better to me. Plus, I have many years left to drive an NA car, whereas time is running out for driving round in a turbo, whoosing to the general public. One day I will have to grow out of it, but that time hasnt come yet! Im still thinking impreza / evo but possibly a skyline r32, the celica / mazda / pulsar are only slightly behind, just let down by looks (and reliability with pulsars gearbox)

But back to 2WD, what good motors am i missing out on? 200sx has been mentioned, im guessing someone will say RX7? Then what?

Are you joking? Have you been living in a box the last 5 years?

Turbo is more popular now than it ever will and will one day replace 'proper NA' because turbochargers are far more efficient ways of getting power for CO2 purposes. There are more turbos now than ever before - look at VW with a 1.4TSI instead of a 1.6, BMW now have turbocharged smaller engines instead of massive N/A engines, etc etc.

Turbo is going nowhere. It's big power NA thats doomed.

It seems you only want a turbo so you can 'woosh to the general public'. I beleive F&F stopped being cool 7 years ago.

Once I hit 30, I dont want to be driving an impreza / skyline. I will be in a "family" car, probably a VW TD, which doesnt make a statement of "im over here" and which doesnt whoosh :p

Thats all I meant by my time is limited with a turbo car of this nature.

Also, just in case anyone missed my other post, my main car is a gsxr1000 so big NA engines are irrelevant :D

Don't be silly, once you're 30 you can still be obnoxious and chavvy if you like.

Maybe he could buy a really expensive Focus only to have to sell it 3 months later

Why dont you explain why ALL Imprezas will need £3000 spending on them?

Also, some advice in particular as to what I should look for to avoid one requiring this spent on it would be useful

A standard one imported fresh from the import auctions and unmodded if you are looking for best bang for buck, cars from Jap are generally in much better condition than UK stuff.
But as said a UK T2000 would be in your price range again, unmodded to start with.

Irrelevant, but it won't cost me £3k, or even half that.

Because you cannot buy a decent Impreza for £3k imo, they have all been abused. If it doesn't require a rebuild, it will require a gearbox - I haven't seen one person I know buy/sell a classic Impreza that hasn't required one of the two, and that ranges from £2k ****ters, all the way up the scale to STIv4s, Type-RAs and even otherwise mint, 44k mile P1s.

Of course they are going to have been abused but look at his requirements, he wants a turbocharged car to drive around going BRRRRRRRM-TSCH at traffic lights. All the cars that fit the criteria he has will have been abused by previous owners with similar requirements.

Really? So all turbocharged cars available right now for around £3,000 have been abused by previous owners?

When it comes to talking about cheap, second hand cars you don't half come out with some crap.

Whoever suggested the Glanza V / Starlet GT Turbo is probably correct. Sure they're only a 1.3 turbo but with some sensible mods they can put out a decent amount of power and achieve the woosh pscht sound he's after. Plus they're really quite small cars so that sort of power can make them a lot of fun and able to embarras some much bigger cars out there.

(I'm serious here, not taking the P)

Also they're no-where near as hideous as the Pulsar.

Why do they make you feel disconnected? Because you drive so far from the front? The size difference between a skyline and a scoob isnt going to much. How does a skyline handle compared to an impreza? I would imagine it wouldnt be as good, but by much? Im partial to doing a few mods to improve handling... poly bushes, new sus, it transforms a car totally. What if this were done to aid the skyline / scooby, what happens then?

Having owned cars fitted with both 4WD systems (the Legacy B4 RSK representing Subaru's permanant AWD and the Cefiro SE-4 representing Nissan's ATESSA-ETS 4WD) I have to say that I greatly prefer Nissan's. The handling is better and it's much more fun to drive. Subaru's are really more about grip than handling, in standard form.
