Turbos

Because your DC5 is much more high revving than the lazy turbo with it's quoted "peak torque at the fly" figure.

Not to mention your DC5 is probably considerably lighter (1180kg iirc?)

Rubbish!

Why does my car keep up with any turbo hot hatch with a lot more torque then? Magic?

NA and instant throttle response for the win!

if you plant your foot from 1kprm you will lose

you have rev the **** off your car to initiate your competitiveness

I just pick a gear, and go :)

Their busy changing gears every 2k revs (even less for turbo diesels), while you have ~80% of your rev range at your disposal.

Torque is simply a figure that salesmen and people with little mechanical knowledge like to pitch, it means nothing on its own.

yeah coz below the vtec range the engines are really responsive

Really? Amazing. So why can i do 0-60 and 0-100 faster than a Focus ST for example?

Some people are so stupid when it comes to turbo's. They think that they have full power and torque from 500revs or somet. Below the turbo kicking in, you have dick all as well, not to mention turbo lag, and the fact it revs 2k less.

You can't just pick a gear and go as you suggest. And seeing as there aren't many better manual boxes in a car this side of a 30k, i don't see the problem.

Gonna be a hell of a lot more 'responsive' than a turbo mate it's called instant throttle response, something that forced induction will never have.

Older Type R's like the EK9 and DC2 are more chalk and cheese, with regard VTEC and out of it, but the K20 isn't.

I can perhaps buy the "instant throttle response" argument if we are talking about high displacement V8s that make a lump of torque just above tick over, but in a discussion regarding high revving, low displacement 4 pots? :D.

16v small displacement NA cars are almost always flat when "off cam".

That Type R graph says otherwise, it has a pretty flat torque graph beyond 2k rpm.

The issue with Vtec's is you get such a kick when the cams swap that anything off cam just feels inadequate, when in reality its no less than any other engine with the same capacity.

Low rotating inertia and high compression 4 pots?

go and try your 0-60 run drop the clutch at 1krpm, see how far you get :)

Not to put too fine a point on it, but my 2.0TFSI kicks in at about 1.5k and from that point on the vtec boyz are kicked into history!! (whilst they are fumbling to find that sweet 5.5k spot and the right gear to slot it into!)

Smokey no idea what you are smoking, or what you are driving for that matter?!?

Race anyone ;-)

Right gear? You should always be above 6k at anytime :p

The s2000s 0-20 time is pathetic unless you drop the clutch at 6k rpm :(
