Turn Baldurs Gate and its sequel into the single best CRPG experience you'll likely ever encounter

Hmm....I have the batch file running. It looks like it has been stuck for the last couple of hours.

I switched to the minimal install. It is on the install of the [Baldur's Gate Trilogy-Core]

Hmm...left running overnight and no progress.

I have both BG and BGII in their default folders moved from C:\Program Files\ to C:\

Ok, when it seems to have stopped enter in the path that Baldurs Gate 1 is installed to into the install window for example mine was:

C:\BG\Baldurs Gate

Try this but for your install path and hit enter see if it does anything.

Did you install them into the default folders then moved them after? or am i just confusing your post :p. If so , the reg settings will still point to the program files if you didn't do that ignore what i just said :D

Does anyone have any tips for playing these, as I'm only making my way to Beregost in BG1 at the moment, and getting a serious pasting in most fights.

Is there any way to raise dead/defeated party members, or is it a case of when they're gone, they're gone?

I find it very difficult to tell the damage I'm doing to enemies, and I've been making liberal use of the space bar but don't seem to be able to improve things at all - aggro balancing for example.

Temples - raise dead , when you are a very high level you can spellcast raise dead!

No, I installed them to C:\Black Isle\Folder Name

The main problem people seem to be having is when the update "seemingly" freezes. It actually tells you in the top right of the update program, that when you see the flashing cursor, type in the path name of the directory it needs, usually you baldurs gate 1 directory. Job done :)

Oh and there is a wide screen add on that comes with this package, just type wide screen in the search box of the mod selection screen and select it!

The process isn't perfect, I mean you already tell it what games are in what directory(very important when you do this at the start of the program that the boxes on the right of the path turn green), but the batch file asks you again, this is what is confusing people I think.

Combat is very challenging in this game, personally I save a lot and pause before each encounter, the obvious strategy is keep your ranged members away from the sword to sword combat, as they are prone to die easy due to less hit points and armour, so when you pause the game move them back. Like WoW send in your tanks (fighters, paladins etc)!

Has anyone reached the point of the transistion from BG1 to BG2 yet? Do you lose Dynaheir and Khalid as per the traditional start of BG2?

Just looked at setting this up, come to patch the games and the partch links are just showing the Biowar page with no patches.

Is there any other location where I can get the required patches from?

Thanks for the guide Neil, very helpful:)

One question, I installed the recommended option for BiG world, as I’ve never played the games before. All went ok (there was a list of mods that didn’t install, but I didn’t know what they are).

Installed the widescreen mod without any problems.

Tried to download the BG ToB Extender but it kept showing an error in the Dos window due to a mod being installed and I had to exit the installation. When I tried to load up the game the ToBloader.exe had disappeared.

If I want to play BiG trough with the recommended install will I be missing anything if I don’t install the ToB extender?

Or if it’s vital that I have ToB extender to make the experience complete and I have to installed the minimum version of BiG will it be ok for a complete novice at BG/BG2?

Thanks

Funny that even by todays standards, Baldurs Gate and Morrowind still remain the best RPG's ever made :p

I've already played through BGT several times, and soloed it with both a Cleric / Illusionist and Fighter / Theif / Mage.

Dont forget you can use a utility called shadowkeeper to remake the party joinable characters into anything you want.

Installed using The Big World Project a couple of weeks ago and it's superb. Have played Baldur's Gate in the BG II engine before using Tutu but this installer is great in that it does all the modding work for you...even if it did take over six hours!

What a game though. Anyone who likes traditional RPG's and hasn't given it a go, do yourself a favour and get this installed.
