Turn Baldurs Gate and its sequel into the single best CRPG experience you'll likely ever encounter

Ive just got to beregost. Ive just done the spiders over lol. Im a type of person who takes it very slow when doing RPG. I liked to do all the missions and side quests. And try to go everywere.

I also didnt mean to make another post DOH.

I've been trying to get this to work, Big World setup seems to have downloaded everything but then installs everything but WeiDU 2.20 does anyone know where I can find this?

If anyone purchased baldurs gate 1 on gog.com and have the second one and it's expansion , you can use this setup guide to install both + mods and play from one game to the other with the same characters!. It also enables the first one in the engine of the second :D plus much much more

http://www.reddit.com/r/gaming/comments/cebua/step_by_step_moddingguide_turn_baldurs_gate_and

  • several hundred new areas
  • over a hundred NPCs (as in only the ones who can join your party), which of course have their own storylines, dialogue (lots of them voiced)
  • unimaginable numbers of new spells,
  • quests,
  • monsters,
  • tactical challenges,
  • class-kits,
  • romances,
  • engine modifications
  • custom-GUIs
  • widescreen resolutions
  • and just about every bug or hiccup to ever glance the game has been squashed

BGT Minimal-version <--- purists who are merely in it to relive their fond childhood memories of the games combined ( the one i use )
This minimal installation is very easy and fast done. You don't need anything to know about the BG mods. Install this version to play BG1 with the BG2 game engine until the end of ToB.

Recommend-version <- for curious newbies
The recommend mods depends on recommendations from gamers and modders from different BG game forums. This version is a small megamod and a solid basis. This version alone gives you much new game-experience and content and if you wish you can add some more of your lovely choosen mods to it.

Standard-version < - for everyone who played the games before about once or twice,
Herewith you can install all mods which have not an absurd degree of difficulty or known bugs. You can take all these Standard-mods or choose the ones, you like.

Tactic-version < - for people who whip the games out every year and breeze through it
With this installation you can add mods and components to the Standard-version that make above all the fights with the enemies more difficult and, therefore, are thought for experienced gamers.

Expert-version <-- Very buggy
This version tries to fathom the feasible and includes all available mods of the Standard- and the Tactic-version and additional the mods, which are bugged at the moment. You have a 100% chance of running into bugs and/or CTDs (crash to desktop)

MY SETUP GUIDE WHICH WORKS 100% !

Hi,

Follow Neil79's instructions EXACTLY and it does work! Took me a couple of attempts.

Playing the first game is truly amazing when using Baldur's Gate II engine!

The way the first game + expansion and the second game with expansion all run one after another is brilliant.

I agree with the title of this thread, everyone who likes CRPG MUST try this!

I think a lot of rpg gamers in general should give it a whirl too!

Thanks again Neil79, you've made my week!

Such fond memories of this game...

Can you explore random areas in BG2 like you could in BG1? Also would anyone be able to post a screen shot of a combined map (if there is one?). This is tempting me sooo much but I have so many things to do in RL.

Is this worth getting for someone who will be playing BG for the 1st time or should I just get Tutu and the widescreen mod?

So let me get this straight- this mod allows you to play BG1 through to BG2, with some sort of fan-made interlude inbetween to tie them together?

If so, I am so in :)

Weirdly I was looking at my dusty copies of BG1 and 2 last night, thumbing my stubble and thinking "hmmmmm...... is there enough time available in my life?"

Listening to the soundtrack link above gave me goosebumps! BG2 was probably one of the first nails in the coffin of my marriage.....

How long would it take to complete baldurs gate 1 plus expansion and baldurs gate 2 with expansion?

Providing you don't rush them, BG1/2 are both far longer than the likes of NWN and Dragon Age, they really do make modern RPGs look a bit 'lite', and if you can appreciate them despite limitations imposed by the age, you should soon see why they're still considered amongst the best out there 10 years on.

Luckily due to the drawn nature, the game still looks good too, if a bit tiny.

I am OH so very tempted to go back and play these again with the new mods and 'between games' content. It's been about 3/4 years since I last played them and I still remember the damned intro screen music. I've never played with BGTutu either, so I've yet to experience the amazingness of BG with the added potential awesomeness introduced in the upgraded BG2 engine/classes. Tempted to try a monk but might just grab the mage again for some fireball/mass magic missile+haste mayhem. :D

Epic games, and honestly in my top few favourite ever games, along with Total Annihilation, Zelda Ocarina of Time, FF7 and Tie Fighter.

Never really played BG before and lost my copy a long time ago :( Tempted to get it on GOG mind. Got an email from them today saying NWN + expansions are available though!

Probably one of my favourite game series' ever. Horde of the Underdark expansion in particular - gawd I put a crap ton of hours into that. Still have the discs too :)

Haha, I still have all the original discs and case and box somewhere. I refused to throw them away, loved the paper manual you got with all the little 'volo' notes etc.

Even though I've since bought several copies of the game due to discs in BG2 dying and complete editions etc, I think I'll probably always keep that box out of nostalgia.

.

That is correct , it also has the added extra quests and npcs. However those that worry it's going to mess with the core gameplay of baldurs , it doesn't!. Just follow my instruction guide exactly and you will have an amazing gaming experience!. If you have BG1 don't play it again until you have BG2 then combine! :D

Anyone know if its possible to use the no cd crack once the Big World stuff is installed? Want this on my netbook but obviously no DVD drive sadly and I've tried but couldn't get it to work, just wondering if anyone else had done anything similar?

It might work , backup the exe's just incase!

Because i have baldurs gate 1 gog version and baldurs gate 2 retail + expansion the only thing it keeps asking for is the expansion cd lol. Might sort that out when i can be bothered

hmmm interesting question...

I agree with Neil, try it, I do suspect it won't work though, as I think the update process might alter the original exe file, thus making the crack redundant.

Good luck

I own both games (the only boxed games I have left) but use Daemon tools and an iso file of TOB to run the game. That's the only way I can think of which doesn't require a crack.

Cheers folks, I did notice that it was the expansion pack CD it was looking for, I've managed to create an ISO of the disc so I will give that a try, been using Daemon tools for a lot of other things that need cd/dvd on my netbook as the no disc cracks don't seem to work reliably.
