"Now actually she does watch live TV and occasionally iPlayer so is liable for a TV license". But the tactics of Capita, claiming they're monitoring her when clearly they're just chancers, are atrocious.

But maybe they are. She does know that when she accesses BBC material she leaves an IP behind that can be traced to her house? There isn't much that the BBC (and affiliates) can do to trace people, but checking IP addresses certainly is one of them.

To be honest I'm confused as to how they even have her phone number. I don't particularly believe the agents are actually making an effort to work out who is using the services and who isn't.

So a person watching maybe one or two things a year should aye the same as someone who watches it daily?

Exactly. I don't think there is any other service in the world that covers absolutely everything with an all encompassing payment - multiple channels, radio, the odd orchestra....and so on. They should have packages, like other TV providers do.
And why should we pay the BBC if we want to watch a live channel produced by the USA? Yet we do...

netflix has podcasts(radio for Gena rebels) - so, itself, the everything, package ;
ironically if you have a smarthphone prosthetic, now better placed to continually listen to a live radio stream though,

BBC could just go the way of netflix and have a cheaper with adds service.

Does the BBC have a monopoly for eurovision stream.

Yes as the BBC contributes a lot to the show.

to avoid the criticism of Institutiionalised sexism, sounds like the broadcasters will need to club together so we can watch the womens world cup - a dilemna;
or, good opportunity for netflix to philanthropically put their hand in their woke pocket.

Why have to go through that hassle. Make it a pay to watch service or substitute advertising for those happy to accept that option.

BBC would fail without the licence fee.
If you could receive all other channels and you only had to give up the BBC... So many people would not pay, bbc would just crumble.

That in itself means it's time to let it die. Gone are the days that the BBC was important enough to basically be a tax.

Huge overheads, lots of guff content, massive pension bill. It's a dinosaur, and it's surviving it's natural extinction by being nearly a tax.
