TV Licence Super Thread

Feels like BBC tell us multiple times during World Cup games that we need a license to watch the football!

Do they do this with other programmes? I don't recall this being mentioned once during the snooker world champs in April.

I feel like I am having to tell them to go away every year instead of the 2 years of peace they promise. I once again sit conflicted between letting them waste their money on stamps vs having to constantly put their and the other spam you get delivered at the same time in the bin (I don't get much mail).

grreat piece of satire on Starmer in bbc dead ringers he's a participant in Traitors, on his new career project,
sturgeon too, in generation game. - where else can you get that kind of UK specific content.

it's like the Alan Partridge they are re-showing

Forget the TV licence.

BBC, ITV and Channel 4 are going to force their way into your Youtube space.
You will watch the BBC and you will like it.

Eh, they're already there, and like anything on youtube you dont have to watch it.

So long as they dont expect their prescence on the platform to justify extending the tvl to iptv, they can make money from ad revenue just like everyone else

If you watch live content from any TV broadcaster, even if it's on YouTube, then you need a licence. This was covered by BlackBeltBarrister a while back. It doesn't mean you need a licence to watch a live stream from a youtuber, but if it's the BBC, ITV, etc, then you still need a licence. It's wrong imho but that's apparently the law.

Yeah i'm aware of that, i'm meaning that they extend that to cover on-demand content too.

Ultimately my issue isnt really paying for broadcast tv as a concept, seems no different to paying for netflix or prime or sky etc. My issue is how damned agressive tvl is when you decide their service isn't one you want.

I'd be up in arms with bezos if the moment i cancelled prime i had threatening letters and folk rocking up at my door telling me to subscribe or else.

It is like their current world cup coverage. They mention needing a tvl at every god damn opportunity along with a qr code to buy one
