TwsT's 1700 vs 1800x comparison (warning large screenshots)

TwsT showed some results the 1700 beating the 1800X when overclocked makin g it great Value for money. I will check a large sample size Monday to make sure most can do exactly this before releasing my bundles.

Your a legend @8 Pack any word on what your bundles will be? CPU & Mobo, or are you going for CPU, Mobo, Ram & Cooler?

Personally I would be happy with a 1700 + Asrock Taichi bundle :)

It will be CPU, MB, RAM, Cooler and TIM. Otherwise difficult to ensure quality unless we supply all the major parts. Obviously we will advise on PSU also and give an option with no cooler but suggest an absolute minimum. Really exactly as what I do with Intel.

Great news thanks, hoping one of your kits will fit in a Corsair Carbide Air 240 case as I am looking to build a new VR rig.

My personal opinion is yes the 1700 if oc manually is better. 1800X is out of box set up Ram and leave option.

But I need to check a larger sample size to be totally convinced I will try more Monday.

NZXT 62 please!

I want the shiny shiny.

I'll probably pick one up in April, i postponed for now as I want to wait a couple of weeks for bugs to iron out. (And see if the 1600x releases in April and is better for gaming)

Very interesting, I'm unsure wether to go for 1700 or hold off for 1600x I only game and I can't see the benifit of an 8 core cpu over a 6 core cpu, am I right in thinking the 1600x will be clocked higher out of the box too?

At the moment, no, that is not correct. The current announcements from AMD put the 1600X at the same or less clock speed as the 1800X.

In real life though? Who knows?

As I said before launch its Finfet which does not clock great. I don't expect a reduction in cores to six to make a difference to oc too much.

I mean look at Intel. When u oc the chips the best high core count chips are better than the average low core count chips.

Yep, I doubt we will see any clock speed increases until Zen+. The advantage of the 4 core and 6 core Ryzen chips will be cost.

@TwsT Do some testing amigo on the Asus Prime X370 and a 1700 please? :D
@easyrider very memory specific board spent all morning it will not work with this team xtreem memory but at least now i have it in windows i can do some testing, honestly it's been a total nightmare even on the latest bios

EDIt

got into windows and all teh way to heavy multitasking in realbench at 4.0 / 2400Mhz DDR4 @ 1.4V no loadline using micron memory, can't test it much more than that as i am awaiting AM4 mounting brackets

lol

I can't contrary to popular believe i'm not a fan of broken hardware :D point is seems like an alright board on the latest bios, and IF I had better cooling i'd give it a whirl.

TWST place ln2 pot on top of aio cpu block. For me very solid hold down!!

Just started my bundle testing with some baseline benching with 1800X stock and 1800X all cores 4G with mem Oc.

My first bundle will try improve upon these results with 1700.

Great news, are you going to post results in a new thread comparing components and what was achieved?
