Well If my Tx650w corsair can handle 2 6950's why can't a 600w handle 1?

if your gaming then no. 99% of games cant take advantage of more than 4 cores. if your doing other stuff that can take advantage of more than 4 cores then yes it will help, but the money would be far better spent on an i5 2500k + P67 or Z68 motherboard

a good quality 400W PSU could quite easily cope with one 6950:

the only reason i'd say a 600W one couldnt handle it is if it was a no brand PSU

I dont think it is actually, a good 850W PSU is needed. I have looked a bit deeper into it and thats what I reckon.

Hmm, I am going to check what my system pulls now. My dad has one of those wall socket plugs with Wattage display.

What would be a good test crysis 2 or something like furmark?

Definitely a game, maybe Chess? as this stresses the CPU a lot as it has to think the next move.
