Tyre Inflators

Connect footpump. Pump tyre. Remove footpump. Repeat another 3 times. Put pump back in the boot. Go and get laid.

So women like it when you have a footpump in the boot, must remember that one.

PK!

I got a free compact one in the boot of my car (nice surprise) and it's a beast. Pumps tyres up so fast, and the valve screws on (previous ones I've used have had a like clamp thing which isnt as secure)

makes a hell of a noise though

Are you taking the mick? Seriously?

My god I thought I was anal with my weekly checks and constant car washing but you take things to an entirely new level.

Yeah because tyre pressures being accurate aren't important at all.

No but the point is the difference in accuracy between using a decent footpump and spending 5 hours doing it with 12 seperate guages is negliable at best.

Tyre pressure accuracy is important, but a quality footpump is accurate enough.

AFAIK most Shell garages give free air- I normally pop in once a fortnight when I'm passing. The compressors seem ok to me, and the pressure gauges are fairly accurate too (I use a seperate gauge in conjunction with theirs, and it's within 1 psi). You might as well buy a decent pressure gauge and use Shell or somewhere else, saving £40 odd.

You'd have to be retarded to damage a tyre using a compressor and a pressure gauge TBH, and what's to say a tyre inflator has been correctly calibrated anyway?!

See that's all that was needed to be said :/ And yes there are people more anal about some things than you, like me!

How do you manage to have a life when you get so anal over such silly things like a tyre being out by 0.0001psi etc. :\

I use the free air at the local sainsburies petrol station and my own pressure gauge. Just fill it to just over and tweak it down to the pressure I want.

? I could say the same for anyone here but just use different topics which each person is anal about. For me car cleaning, basic maintenance & DIY or whatever has no relation to being happy and going out doing stuff during free time that's how. I'd imagine the same goes for everyone else here too regardless of being anal about different things.

There used to be a petrol station half a mile from my house which was nice and convenient. They also had this nice standing pipe thing that dispensed air through a nice valve and analog pressure gauge, nice and convenient. Then they knocked the petrol station down

They turned it into a car dealer. So I bought my Honda from them. I sure showed them.

Anything where the hose pushes onto the valve and is then 'locked on' using a lever is quite poor IMHO, having seen/used and sold a lot of the halfords ones the seal is rarely any good, and seem to get looser with time. Those pumps, be they 'foot' or electric, that screw onto the valve directly (such as the Michelin one in the OP) are superior for this reason.

I won't bother with any 12v inflator because they're all poorly built regardless of how much they sell for and they last about one year on light use. I had a michelin inflator with digital gauge, it only lasted a year.

After that, I had bought a halford inflator for £25 after a price reduction (was at rip-off £45). Recently, its 12v plug had just fallen apart, I used duck tape to hold it together and now, I am wary of the accuracy of its built-in gauge so I had to deflate my tyres a bit before inflating it for better accuracy!

My dad still has a halfords one that I remember us having 2 houses ago so it's at least...8 years old but probably more. Been used quite a lot over the years and still going strong, although it's nowhere near as good as the one I have

I just use free air from the petrol station and leave it at that. So long as it thinks both sides are equal and the correct pressure I'm happy. 10k of hard driving and I have even wear and it feels great to drive.

Does this actually work?, thought i wasn't getting much action recently haven't check my tyres for a few months :(

Rubbish, the one I use is at least 10 years old and it works fine, I think it was a pretty cheap one all that time ago too. It also features a lever to lock onto the valve, this works fine, and pops off easily so you lose virtually no air when removing it.

Offering to check her tyre pressures after work one day was, I am sure, a contributory factor to her eventually asking me out

Always keep a footpump ;)
